Newbie saying hello and . . .

. . . asking a stupid "introductory" question:

What do "KiB" and "MiB" mean ??  Perhaps Kilo Bits per second?  and Mega Bits per second?

By this reasoning, I guess the "bytes" version would be KyB and MyB . . .

Anyway, if someone can clear this up for me, I'll appreciate it.

And I promise . . . any following questions or requests for guidance will be more substantive.
