proxy vs network interface?

Post by Skorpn78 »

If I set up through proxy, is it necessary to set up the network interface?

Please bare with me I am still new to VPN uses and limits, and sorry if this is covered elsewhere.  I tried to search for it.
I use newshosting VPN and it has its own VPN software that I turn on and off at my choosing.  In addition it has its own application as well which has no need to run the separate VPN software.  I still enjoy using torrents so its a win/win and easier to get what I need.

So my main concern is...
In qbt I want to be able to download without having to turn on my VPN software currently because Netflix is really clamping down on IPs and while im connected I cant watch anything.  So I was wondering if I can just have my VPN setup through qbt proxies alone without having my VPN software active (network interface).
I have set up the proxy (not enabled) and am currently connected with the network interface as well.

Thanks

If you are asking whether the VPN settings in Qbittorrent work without affecting traffic from the rest of the system, the answer is yes, it is separate (once it is enabled, assuming your VPN provider supports torrents with the Socks4/5/http connection required. I use PIA which does.).
When you have it set up, you can test if it is working as expected by using a check like http://checkmyip.torrentprivacy.com/ which shows you your system's ip vs. the torrent.

I have the latest 4.1.8 and I cannot get either ipmagnet or checkmyip to download and install anything and is always showing as not working. I have PIA and also proxy set up but any help appreciated.

Thanks,
BobM.
