How to rename torrents that have ridiculously long file or folder names?

Post by Bushbaby »

I have this issue where some torrents will have stupidly long folder/file names and often nested subfolders, long enough that they go over the Windows OS limit and that means Qbittorrent can never correctly append the the file extension when a torrent is finished and torrents go into an endless loop of being rechecked and redownloaded. I wasted 60GB the other day on a 500mb file that was very well seeded, it have a very long name and went into an endless download loop. The issue also means I have to go manually correct the file extension from .!qB becuase Qbittorrent can't do it with these files, this can be a huge job depending on the torrent.

I've tried using the rename feature which seems to only rename the filename in the torrent list, set location seems to just make a nested folder with the same stupidly long folder/file name in the new location.

What is the best method to deal with this issue?

Ever since Python started recommending this feature, I've been using it.
I really recommend it. Never had a program break due to it or anything.

(Windows 7, Windows 8.1 also has this feature.)
