Strict super-seeding.
« on: May 29, 2014, 05:41:23 pm »
I am a long time end-user off uTorrent under mac.
Years ago when i liked to use Kubuntu as an OS, i used KTorrent a lot.

Now when i tried to re-hash a torrent with uTorrent, it was not available. So i searched for a another client for my macbook.
I do have a question from the first time starting this client though:

What is strict super-seeding? I suppose it is not the standard protocol every clientt use?

Thank you.

Mine says Super seeding modus (Windows). Strict or not it is/does the same thing; Super seeding. Maybe other languages, in this case English, is showing it as ''Strict'' but mine on Dutch language shows it different.

But there are two ways of super-seeding for what i know of. That makes me to think about what 'strict' means here.

Strict means "as defined in the protocol specification" anything other than that is NOT 'strict'.

The uTorrent method is called "Initial Seeding" because it does not comply with the protocol specification at all.

Libtorrent manual:

Quote
strict_super_seeding when this is set to true, a piece has to have been forwarded to a third peer before another one is handed out. This is the traditional definition of super seeding.
