NEW - "Run uninstaller silently just before actually doing the installation."

I think the old way of popping up the uninstaller's options is better.

Thanks for the alpha release.

Great sledge, thanks :)! By the way, what is this file qbittorrent.pdb in the same folder as qbittorrent.exe? It is 43mb at the moment.

Yes I confirm this.

@Dayman, does it show up on your builds too?
@tekko, for the unistaller: I will keep the new way, unless people start bitching about it :p It's cleaner.

I suppose you wanted to confirm the bug and inform of a separate bug, right?
Don't worry I have subscribed to that libtorrent bug so I get all the updates. And I have to admit that you do an impressive just hunting this down and debugging. I would never been able to do that. Thank you.

Looking forward to try your new work. Thanks in advance for your efforts!
I am still using 3.1.0 alpha (the one you linked per google docs, cannot remember the build number and it's not shown in the 'About' section of qB) and my only problem is with new/unfinished torrents that I stopped. They resume randomly without my doing.

Oh and link #1 is down, by the way :)
Have a nice rest-of-the-weekend!

edit: the problem still exists. When I stop new or unfinished torrents and I quit the program and start it again, they resume automatically. But not all of it. Looks randomly or maybe only the newest ones get started again (just a clue).

EDIT: ''Downloaded'' bar isn't working, availability bar works. Download is at 12% but shows blank instead pieces. Otherwise great speeds and stable  ;D.

About the downloadbar not working. It is a libtorrent issue. I don't know why or where but libtorrent 0.16.8 onwards is broken. The same code compiled with 0.16.7 has the downloadbar working fine.

I've never had that kind of issue with qBittorrent, but I've encountered it with other clients, and it can be really frustrating.

I searched the 0.16.9 session_impl.cpp for the code change and it doesn't exist there. So I don't 0.16.9 is affected. If it is, the libtorrent author will probably backport it to the RC_0_16 branch anyway.

Yes, the fix has only been commited to the AIO so far..
What worries me is that this fix was needed at all.
Is there a new bug in libtorrent v0.16.9 that called for it?
..if so, we might have to live with it for a while, since I'm guessing that you guys are gonna use libtorrent v0.16.9 for qBittorrent v3.0.9.

As far as I can tell, 0.16.9 doesn't have the capabilities of aio or at least it has very few similarities. AIO stands for asynchronous I/O and it still is considered experimental.

Good to hear.
Those shutdown hangs can be a real PITA!
I've been experiencing them a lot with Opera..
so much in fact, that I've made a special shortcut in the taskbar to kill the SOB quick and painless through M$ taskkill.exe.

or the RC_0_16 svn branch at that time already includes all the bugs fixes?

Well, I think you are ok if you use my last alpha. After that in git master only a linux specific change exists and some language updates. From libtorrent, there are only 2-3 minor extra fixes.

sledge,

Is it possible to get an official "beta" build for qBT 3.1.0? Due to the issues in 3.0.9 I'm trying to get 3.1.0 whitelisted on a private tracker but they have a policy against allowing alpha builds due to risk of negative effects on swarm health from untested code.

What, if anything, is keeping 3.1.0 at the alpha level right now?

Post by: sledgehammer_999 on April 20, 2013, 10:58:26 AM
It is just a convention. Everything in git master is considered unstable. Currently 3.1.0 is labeled 'alpha' by Chris Dumez (the author of qbt). I don't control this. In my opinion, 3.1.0 is very stable. Nevertheless I am not going to do a new build and just label it "beta". However, I will suggest to Chris to make a beta/RC release of 3.1.0.

Testn'...
79MB of usage with 270 torrents. Downloading with 12M/s and uploading with 3M/s.
(Of course speed varies, but that's bretty good.)

The connection limits are still getting ignored for some reason.
My router got 9000+ open connections now. (17k is the safety limit bu tit's getting slow already.)
Any idea why this happens?

I have an 500 limit.

Keep in mind that this build uses libtorrent 1.0.x (trunk) which isn't considered stable by the author.
Official qbt releases will use 0.16.x(or the RC_0_16 branch) which is the stable series for now.

Everything works rock-solid for me after a long test.
The only thing it messes up is the connection limit. It goes up to 16000+.
(And this happens on 3.0.9 as well for some reason.)
This is why my connection dies down, not the memory/CPU/amount of torrents.

setting the connection limit doesn't prevent peers from trying to connect all it does is tell the client to reject the connection if the connecting peer isn't any better then the one in the swarm
the connection its self will still remain open until the router either drops it or it times out
if your router has settings for these timeouts you can try and shorten them
http://cl.ly/PcdP/Image%202013-06-12%20at%2010.46.29%20PM.png
some of the older linksys firmwares had a bug where the timeout was set way to long

I'm using OpenWRT and sadly I can't limit such connections. (At least not in LUCI).
It works in uTorrent / rTorrent / Transmission though.

@sledgehammer_999 There is an issue in the installer where special characters, like ñ and accents like ú, doesn't show up correctly, i have seen this in other places as a results of wrong selection of ANSI-Unicode or missing conversion in between...

Which language do you use in the installer? -I'll try to fix this-

The feed issue has nothing to do with the installer. Report it here:https://github.com/qbittorrent/qBittorrent/issues?direction=desc&sort=updated&state=open
Most probably Dayman can fix it.

Used Spanish language, the expected words are "menú" and "Añadir" respectively.

Language problems in installer may be caused by non-utf encoding translation file.

As for RSS. I'll see what I can do. But from my point of view RSS code needs to be rewritten. Maintaining it is real pain.

Here is a build of qBittorrent 3.1.0alpha25062013 from git master with:
boost 1.53
libtorrent RC_0_16
openssl: 1.0.1e
qt: 4.8.4

Built using MSVC2008.

Link1: http://builds.shiki.hu/qbittorrent_3.1.0alpha25062013_setup.exe
Link2: https://mega.co.nz/#!yoAhTKZA!Q-EFOWU5RzZSkKbJ2B5w92OxvpYzXZihOKT2nZzpj_E

It is build with some fixes from libtorrent that may solve some uploading issues. There is nothing special in this one otherwise.

Thanks. This one doesn't crash on startup somehow...

Maybe the trunk is too unstable to be used.

Thanks sledge. Im wondering why the ''Uploaded'' information is gone at ''Peers'' tab, showing each uploaded data for each peer. One before this alpha had the same. Not such a big problem but I was used to see this information somehow :). The Flags tab is nice by the way.

The build looks solid. The router killer problem is gone... it seems.
(No longer getting thousands of connections open, so it works like any other client out there, which is great.)

There is only a small initial peak in connections but it drops down soon enough.
But yeah, qBittorrent is slower on my network for some weird reason that I can't find.

(It maxes out at 6MB/s speed and hogs down the full 90mbps line. Like an overhead or something. With uTorrent I get solid 10.5/12MB/s speeds.)

(uTP is enabled... what else could I check?)

1st Pic is about the initial peak with 9 torrents added. (Xubuntu, Lubuntu, Kubuntu.)
2nd @Nemo: Which one you mean? I see both uploaded tabs.. Oo
3rd pic is about the maxed speeds. This is as fast it gets. I know it's libtorrent specific, not a qBittorrent problem.

The second picture is what I mean shiki (W7 32bit). I installed it over 3.0.9 maybe thats the cause perhaps, so I reverted back to 3.0.9 and its back there :P. ill try with clean install just to be sure, the problem seems on my side :).

Just move out your AppData/qB folder and try starting it. See if it comes up like that.
By the way if you click on the columns (at top), can't you just enable it?

Kinda off topic, but here is a good way to backup stuff.
Make a .bat file on desktop, and use this:
(After the AppData it popped into my head as uTorrent always lost my settings. And it could help if you are willing to test the builds. These are just examples of course. Change the naming, the folders, etc. You can also make 7z compress better or faster. As these folders are small I just use the default "a" switch. Oh and you could run Ccleaner in the first line so your browser backup would be small as well. And for big stuff like Mail, I made a second similar file but that copies the file into a local folder so I just save it down by hand.)

Code: [Select]
@echo off
For /f "tokens=2-4 delims=." %%a in ('date /t') do (set mydate=2013-%%a-%%b)
For /f "tokens=1-2 delims=/:" %%a in ('time /t') do (set mytime=%%a%%b)
"C:\Program Files\7-Zip\7z.exe" a C:\Dropbox\Backup\%mydate%_%mytime%--filezilla.7z C:\Users\x\AppData\Roaming\FileZilla\
"C:\Program Files\7-Zip\7z.exe" a C:\Dropbox\Backup\%mydate%_%mytime%--hexchat.7z C:\Users\x\AppData\Roaming\HexChat\
"C:\Program Files\7-Zip\7z.exe" a C:\Dropbox\Backup\%mydate%_%mytime%--kitty.7z C:\Users\x\AppData\Roaming\KiTTY\
"C:\Program Files\7-Zip\7z.exe" a C:\Dropbox\Backup\%mydate%_%mytime%--purple.7z C:\Users\x\AppData\Roaming\.purple\
"C:\Program Files\7-Zip\7z.exe" a C:\Dropbox\Backup\%mydate%_%mytime%--chrome.7z C:\Users\x\AppData\Local\Google\
"C:\Program Files\7-Zip\7z.exe" a C:\Dropbox\Backup\%mydate%_%mytime%--mozilla.7z C:\Users\x\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\
"C:\Program Files\7-Zip\7z.exe" a C:\Dropbox\Backup\%mydate%_%mytime%--mumble.7z C:\Users\x\AppData\Roaming\Mumble\
regedit.exe /E C:\Dropbox\Backup\%mydate%_%mytime%--WinSCP.reg "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Martin Prikryl\"

You could also use the Windows scheduler in case you forget to run the command.
Here are the Ccleaner options:

The memory usage problem is also gone, 17,540K after a long time with 16 torrents. (Okay that's not too much, I'll add more later.) But it's a great start.

Edit: Whoops, sorry about it then. (That was quite a fail from me.)

Quick response for the 'uploaded' column. It is probably related to the way qbt saves the state of the columns. When I added the 'flags' column and you launch on top of a 3.0.x conf file it confuses the saved state. I will try to fix it. Good catch.

Title: Re: [unofficial]qBittorrent git master builds: 3.1.0alpha27062013
Post by: sledgehammer_999 on June 30, 2013, 02:42:34 AM
Here is a build of qBittorrent 3.1.0alpha30062013 from git master with:
boost 1.54 beta
libtorrent RC_0_16
openssl: 1.0.1e
qt: 4.8.4

Built using MSVC2008.

Link1: http://builds.shiki.hu/qbittorrent_3.1.0alpha30062013_setup.exe
Link2: https://mega.co.nz/#!Zdh3CQZQ!Sen-93vADIQtZTidMcL5uHS08i5GdTS_HSbxbGj-8dA

Apart from the git master additions: The installer correctly displays the spanish language. Also boost 1.54 might fix the crash mentioned above. alfrix can you confirm?

Yup, it is exactly the same as bug #715 (https://github.com/qbittorrent/qBittorrent/issues/715). Even the OS (Windows 8 x64) matches.
Does 3.0.9 work correctly for you? If yes, I'll do a build with 0.16.9 to see if that is the culprit.

Here is a build of qBittorrent 3.1.0alpha03072013 from git master 164f3b761ddfcf4045 with:
boost 1.54
libtorrent RC_0_16 (update today)
openssl: 1.0.1e
qt: 4.8.4

Built using MSVC2008.

This should have interesting things and fixes. Check git log.

With:
qbittorrent_3.1.0alpha01072013+patches_setup.exe
and
qbittorrent_3.1.0alpha04072013+statistics_setup.exe

At ~530 MB ram used, I get this weird error message:
04/07/2013 00:50:44 - Reason: Torrent file () error: Not enough space
04/07/2013 00:50:44 - An I/O error occurred, 'Torrent' paused.
04/07/2013 00:50:44 - Reason: Torrent file () error: Not enough space
04/07/2013 00:50:44 - An I/O error occurred, 'Torrent' paused.
(Torrent is not actually the name of the torrent in question.)

As I tried to open the Options as qBT reached the ~530 MB ram usage limit, I got this crash:
qBT3.1.0alpha crash at 530MB.png
http://www.imagebam.com/image/21bf72263789153

This seems to be the result of me setting qBT's write/read cache to 1000 MB size and 600 seconds duration coupled with my relatively high upload speed of ~600 KB/sec.
The crash did not seem to occur with the cache set to <400 MB.
I verified that I had plenty of free RAM (according to Task Manager) at the time of this crash. Despite being on a 32bit OS, there was about 1 GB free RAM, so even without resorting to swapfile usage qBT had sufficient free RAM to more than double its ~500 MB RAM usage.

I am hoping others (not on Win XP Pro SP3 like me) test this and confirm if it's OS-specific and/or qBT specific.

I think this is the dreaded I/O error message I used to get from the now "official" builds until I switched to the "unofficial" 64-bit builds for my 64-bit win7.

Something, if you could try, temporarily move the config files while the client is closed of course. Re-open client, check for immediate error message, if not load a test torrent, check for error message.

Also, was there any specific crashdump associated with the crash? I thought all of the latest builds are supposed to come with a debugging crashdump?

How big is that torrent? Is it multifile? If yes, how big is the biggest files it contains?

"How big is that torrent? Is it multifile? If yes, how big is the biggest files it contains?"

It's a multifile torrent of about 170 GB total size.
Data files of similar sizes. Under 1.5 GB for the largest one.

"Something, if you could try, temporarily move the config files while the client is closed of course. Re-open client, check for immediate error message, if not load a test torrent, check for error message."

I only get that error message when qBT uses ~530 MB ram. I can immediately restart the torrent without that action alone causing further errors...and I have to, since when the error is triggered the torrent is automatically paused.

"Also, was there any specific crashdump associated with the crash? I thought all of the latest builds are supposed to come with a debugging crashdump?"

I didn't read the crashdump associated with the opening Options crash...where is that stored?

Getting weird crashes now in my qBT tests, even including hash fails on torrents I uploaded from qBT to another client...though I can't seem to figure what's caused the hash fails since I only saw that in the first couple runs.
Faulting application qbittorrent.exe, version 3.1.0.0, faulting module qbittorrent.exe, version 3.1.0.0, fault address 0x001066e8.
drwtsn32.exe typically runs when I get a qBT crash. But sometimes dwwin.exe runs instead.

Crash example screenshots:

http://www.imagebam.com/image/130980265018604
http://www.imagebam.com/image/d09f3c265018606

Also, when I double-clicked on the torrent name in the content window, I get this in a pop-up box:
I/O Error
This folder does not exist yet.

It's basically utorrent flags, note that capitalization does matter:

?: your client unchoked the peer but the peer is not interested
D: currently downloading from the peer (interested and not choked)
d: your client wants to download, but peer doesn’t want to send (interested and choked)
E: peer is using Protocol Encryption (all traffic)
e: peer is using Protocol Encryption (handshake)
F: peer was involved in a hashfailed piece (not necessarily a bad peer, just involved)
H: peer was obtained through DHT
h: peer connection established via UDP hole-punching
I: peer established an incoming connection
K: peer unchoked your client, but your client is not interested
L: peer has been or discovered via Local Peer Discovery
O: optimistic unchoke
P: peer is communicating and transporting data over uTP
S: peer is snubbed
U: currently uploading to the peer (interested and not choked)
u: the peer wants your client to upload, but your client doesn’t want to (interested and choked)
X: peer was included in peer lists obtained through Peer Exchange (PEX)

I've tried a few popular magnet links and the file list shows up fine. Thanks.

Having a magnet link without metadata in the list, loading its torrent file merges the trackers just fine. But why not load the contents also?

Let's say a magnet link is added in paused mode without any metadata downloaded. Then you find its torrent file and you add it... Only the tracker list is being updated, nothing else. i.e. file list, torrent size, pieces size, etc.

Let's say a magnet link is added in paused mode without any metadata downloaded. Then you find its torrent file and you add it... Only the tracker list is being updated, nothing else. i.e. file list, torrent size, pieces size, etc.

Interesting observation. This isn't supported by libtorrent but I think we can do it manually ourselves. Nevertheles, this should become a feature request for both qbt and libtorrent.

I've got a weird bug; All peers are at 99.9%, also the availability bar shows this, but when you look into the peers tab they are shown 100% which is incorrect. Seeds number is also at 0.

I'll look into it, maybe a rounding error.

It's a rounding error. QString::number(0.999*100.0,'f',1) gives 99.9 but QString::number(0.9999*100.0,'f',1) gives 100.0. I'll see how this can be corrected.

Here is a new alpha build with libtorrent RC_0_16(r8971) -> http://builds.shiki.hu/qbittorrent_3.1.0alpha_19092013_setup.exe

Hot new feature: Now the "Add new torrent" dialog is always brought to the front.
Also, you now can enter just infohash in the "add torrent from link" window.
Scheduler logic is more robust
Some possible rounding errors were fixed all over the place.
And wrong ETA when users had downloaded one file, unchecked and checked on other.

Although I am generally skeptic when adding new options because I don't want bloat, I can see why this can be obnoxious. I'll implemented an option.

testing lastest alpha, bring to front works, new metadata retrieval seems to work too, but if the queue is enabled metadata retrieval is queued too, making it never finish until it reaches the download position on the queue, also i had to re-assign folders and labels of ~200 torrents lots of times by now, at first i thinked it was something related with the power management of hdds (i have multiple hdds) so when qBt tries to access the disk when its sleeping, it takes too long and times-out so i disabled disk-sleep but a lot of times just fails after a normal shutdown, i know i'm not the only one because i checked the open issues and there are a lot of duplicates of the same behavior being reported over and over, a bug like this alienates people from the client like everytime i install an update the file associations break, and the option to re-associate doesn't work if the client wasn't opened as admin, but the most important bug was never fixed and years passed since it was first discovered, something needs to be done over the way the torrent folder/labels/status is saved, this hurts the torrent community since when it happens people just delete the torrent since they already have the file

Yes, I know. Take a look at this: https://github.com/qbittorrent/qBittorrent/issues/894
I have implemented most of those changes discussed on the bug, locally. However, the code seems to busy-loop somewhere in a non-obvious and I have to debug to sort this out. I was hoping to release 3.1.0 this weekend but it won't happen. This feature/improvement need to be implemented first. Otherwise, the feature will feel halfbaked. All other issues marked with the "3.1.0" milestone will be transfered to a "3.1.1" milestone instead.

Since I don't know the real cause of the problem, I just have to re-write how each torrent's status gets saved. Something like this: https://github.com/qbittorrent/qBittorrent/issues/583
However, this requires A LOT of careful work. TorrentPersistentData is used all over the place. It's not an easy task to undertake. So no ETA unfortunately.

Sledge, did something change with connections/connecting to the peers with lib 16.11? I was downloading something and suddenly the speed went way down and stayed there, all active uploading peers were uploading with only 4-6KB/s (some even lower) and stayed that way. After restarting qBittorrent everything was normal again. For me it seemed like a huge lag came out of nowhere, but I never experienced this in earlier builds. A few notes: My current OS is W7 SP1 64Bit. qBittorrent was running for 1,5 days straight. This never happened with 3.0.11 so I reverted back just in case. I was using this alpha since its released without this weird behaviour, saw it in the morning. I forgot to make a screenshot but if I catch it again I take one quick.

I d/l the latest build yesterday and noticed something weird. I had never gotten this msg on DIME using older versions of qB but now I see for "firewalled ports" under my DIME profile this msg "no/erroneous BT client listening or misconfigured router".  I've changed absolutely nothing in my router and still using the same forwarded port as before so I've no clue why I'm seeing this now. I can d/l and u/l fine, though the u/l speeds do appear to be slow but I cannot officially confirm that is qbittorrent_3.1.0alpha_19092013's fault.

Here is a new alpha build of latest git master -> http://builds.shiki.hu/qbittorrent_3.1.0alpha_01102013_setup.exe

Hot new bugfix: All problems with qbt forgeting savepaths/labels/torrent settings should be gone now. (tomorrow I'll start cleaning up the bug tracker. If I miss something tag me on github and I'll close it)
Also, the execution log is a little bit more verbose when listening to the port speficied. This may help troubleshoot "stalled torrents" problem.

Thanks sledge, getting this one.

EDIT: This is what I was saying before with my older posts:

http://i.imgur.com/CCbvnfJ.png (http://i.imgur.com/CCbvnfJ.png)

Enough peers but all uploading very low, changed global connections from default 500 to 450 (was just a try) fixed it and my speed went full again. Then went back to 500 and now it works as normal. My settings are always 500 global and 150 per torrent, working since the very beginning. I must add that I never had any issues before with any qBittorrent, but it works now so ill wait till it happens again (hope not) and go back to 3.0.11.

I mean the first torrent on that screenshot, im downloading at very low speed for no reason (all peers uploading to me with low speeds) but changing the above setting made it somehow fix it but its random. I thought it was something like a huge lag or overload which I never had before with any client. Or reserving disk space but also this shouldn't take that much time like im used to be like any other builds. This is the second time im having this, with the previous alpha I had this too sometimes. As you can see its not a popular torrent with only 16 seeds and few leechers so there shouldn't be any problem concerning lag of any kind.

Im having huge speed issues with download and upload speeds with the 2 latest alphas, switching back to 3.0.11 and its gone. Im almost thinking that something is limiting my speeds within the alpha.

Im trying few things out myself; I disabled ''Global maximum number of upload slots'' setting to see how that goes. And lowered the connections, but im very sure thats not the problem. BitSpirit (I know, bad client) was set at 360 connections per torrent back in the days :P! Tried clean installs (something what I always do) still no luck.

Here is the v3.1.0 RC -> http://builds.shiki.hu/qbittorrent_3.1.0RC_06102013_setup.exe

I want you to try and break the "load magnet metadata in the background" feature. If you notice any UI inconsistence during metadata loading(ie wrong queue numbers), please notify me.

This is a Release Candidate for v3.1.0. I am to release v3.1.0 stable either midweek(Wednesday) or in the weekend. All that's missing is updating the changelog and merging the translations from Transifex.

Thanks, sledge & Dayman rocks! Installing :).

Edit: Why is this happening? while 3.0.11 is going with better speeds instead of 2-3-4KB/s. It goes good for a while and then randomly dropping speeds. Also am I the only one experiencing this? I tried uTorrent 2.2.1 to be sure that it isn't my connection (3.0.11 works so I was 99% sure) and its all normal. I can almost say that this only happens with the new alpha's.

IIRC 3.0.11 was build against libtorrent 0.16.11 while the RC was build against RC_0_16(don't remember exact rev).
I'll provide you with an RC+0.16.11 to test.

What did you try to download? A magnet or a .torrent? Have you enabled to save incomplete torrents in a separate folder by any chance? Which system folders? Are they selected randomly?
Can you give an example on how to reproduce this?(with settings and steps). I cannot reproduce currently on my system.

pfff I discovered today that the magnet downloading functionality is actually broken. All torrents default to either OS's temp folder or to some other random path. Multifile magnets get queued even if they are the only torrent in the list.

I hope I can fix till tomorrow, otherwise the final release will be this weekend(hopefully). Damn it.

Yes it was only happening with a magnet. Sorry for my delay of writing here i work hard last days... not much time, i discovered too that qbit' client after closing and start (after pc restart for example) starts downloading files at 0% not 45% (which was downloaded already before closing the client) saw that about 5-6 times it can be the problem with that magnet thing, hard to say.

Just want to say that i thank u all good people for a nice work at the qbit' i just love this client since 2.9.3!.

Was this affecting the latest 64bit build because I loaded a few magnet links and it worked fine, waited for it to load the metadata, went to my download folder as usual. (3.1.0alpha-release-3.0.0-637-g1e802f2)

Or another question, is it required to wait for the metadata in the torrent add window?

Minor detail, In alpha builds it would be convenient to have the build-date in the version string shown in the titlebar/help.
