I have 1 issue with this release, that was not present in the previous release.

When I start qB after the update, it simply wouldn't recognize the files that was placed on a different location than the default.
Instead it would begin the download from scratch.
I then then deleted and added the torrents again, but still the same result.

My conclusion is: when I add a torrent to be downloaded to a different location than the default, the program doesn't check if the files exist on the optional location.
I have to reverse to the previous release until this get fixed.

Hello, im not sure if this is the place to post but with the last two recent builds.(may have come earlier too but just started using qbittorrent recently) I have been having a problem with in the Execution Log Blocked IPs tab its showing blocked IPs. Now that would be good except i have ipfilter disabled. I tried toggling it same result. I also tried loading a blank filter and toggling it again same result. How can i disable it or clear the filter?

Libtorrent blocks bad ips too, based on several facts. The most common one is when a peer sends bad data regularly.

ok so its not an ipfilter rule even though thats what it says? Is there not a way to distinguish between libtorrent blocking and blocking done by the ipfilter.(Kinda of confusing) If not maybe change the message to a more generic message like "*ip* was blocked."

Looking through the source it looks like this:
@/src/qtlibtorrent/qbtsession.cpp:1679
  if (from_ipfilter)
    msg = "<font color='grey'>" + QDateTime::currentDateTime().toString(QString::fromUtf8("dd/MM/yyyy hh:mm:ss")) + "</font> - " + tr("<font color='red'>%1</font> <i>was blocked due to your IP filter</i>", "x.y.z.w was blocked").arg(ip);

Is whats happening. (The only place i found so far with that message lot of code though maybe i just havent gotten to it) Again though if it includes libtorrents blocking then maybe a more generic message would be more appropriate.

If this is the only place "was blocked due to your IP filter" then it is infact a bug because i shouldnt be getting this message ever since i dont have a ipfilter set. And therefore if (from_ipfilter) should never be true.

What Dayman said. But I think, as Doadin suggested, we should make the log string a bit more generic.

(PS: I have one last thing that I test, and I'll probably release 3.1.3 late tonight)

    Unfortunately it is not possible to distinguish the source of peer block.

    libtorrent sends peer_blocked_alert in any of these circumstances:
    • the IP filter
    • i2p mixed mode restrictions (a normal peer is not allowed on an i2p swarm)
    • the port filter
    • the peer has a low port and no_connect_privileged_ports is enabled
    • the protocol of the peer is blocked (uTP/TCP blocking)

    peer_baned_alert is sent when a peer sends too many corrupt pieces, both alerts are logged with the same message.

What Dayman said. But I think, as Doadin suggested, we should make the log string a bit more generic.

(PS: I have one last thing that I test, and I'll probably release 3.1.3 late tonight)

Ok, thanks guys!

PS: As noted a more generic log message would be less confusing and maybe so the code is less confusing too change the if from_ipfilter to if blocked_peer_a or something like that. I know the code doesnt make a difference in actual use but if someone wanted to help contribute it make it easyer to understand.

I made a pull request for this but i accidentally added a different change to the same pull. Please review. Thanks.

( https://github.com/qbittorrent/qBittorrent/pull/1108 )

The DHT commit assumes that when the proxy sessions setting where consolidated in libtorrent that it still proxies DHT if this isnt the case ignore or maybe a way to notify the user maybe a good idea. However if it is, i think to protect your users it should be disabled if an unsupported proxy is in use.(What the commit does) Apparently with the DHT commit it fails to build you guys will have to chekc that i guess.

silly question but does it matter if you install over an existing qbittorrent installation when updating as opposed to uninstalling it first?

The current official installer runs the uninstaller silently before the actual installation keeping the settings and torrents. You only need to uninstall manually if you would like to change the uninstaller's options.

It worked very well just after start-up.
But now, after 12-15 hours of running the program, qBittorrent is not capable  of making any µtp connections.
It sort of start the handshaking but something goes wrong and the connection is dropped or in some cases just stay without doing anything.

After disabling µTP the upload speed after some time got back to normal.

A small update from my side :):

Im running sledge's build (v3.1.3) and Dayman's builds (also v3.1.3,) on 2 different machines. The 64-Bit version is up and running for almost 3 days straight with only seeding torrents (101 currently) and its doing a great job. Same for sledge's build, with 23 torrents. I don't care if its uTp or TCP while seeding (TCP is faster compared to uTp in general with my experience) as long as it seeds im happy with it. I see more uTp connections while downloading compared to uploading/seeding, even hours later when I add a new torrent uTp seems working fine. Didn't see any weird things till now for both of them. Didn't experienced what jeps said but I will take a closer look at it from now on.

Great sledge (and Dayman), thanks alot.

EDIT: sledge is this normal that the options screen gets like this? It is stretchable but you need to stretch it pretty wide to see the details within the settings.

Yes its working good. I had it running the whole night with only seeding torrents active and I think that uploading over uTp seems somehow better with this new version (higher speeds and more stable) which is also a good thing. Restarted my system and ran qBittorrent again and all my settings are intact. Thanks again guys.

Same thing happened for me, so it's not your fault, but a bug.
Of course, resizing it is easy, but it doesn't give of a good first impression for new users.

Probably because you didn't perform a clean install of v3.1.5.

Actually ...... I have .....

I've also allowed an automatic update after reloading 3.1.4, just to see if it dumped the settings on a forced close, AND I've powered off the machine with qBT 3.1.5 running just to see if it recovered correctly after a crash.

Well its nothing big :). Only saw it when I fired up v3.1.5 for the first time and being used to the original size I thought that something was wrong, but the whole window is stretchable. You can make the window as big as you want :P. I've stretched back to the original size so its ''fixed'' now. First I didn't like it but now I do that this is possible. I can understand that for new users that this can be confusing perhaps. Also the settings resetting problem seems gone.

libtorrent v0.16.14 released:
Quote
* make lt_tex more robust against bugs and malicious behavior
* HTTP chunked encoding fix
* expose file_granularity flag to python bindings
* fix DHT memory error
* change semantics of storage allocation to allocate on first write rather than on startup (behaves better with changing file priorities)

* only act on uTP RST packets with correct ack_nr
* make uTP errors log in normal log mode (not require verbose)
* deduplicate web seed entries from torrent files
* improve error reporting from lazy_decode()

Well, it is (more or less) working OK.

This is the first ever version of qBittorrent that I have to specify which NIC/Network Interface qBittorrent must use.
It sort of found 2 IP's (1 was the right one and was wrong (IP of a VM) and the network wasn't working 100%
After setting it to use the right Network Interface and restart everything was back to normal!
(bonus info: I'm a using a fixed port in my router/firewall so UPNP is disabled in qBittorrent)

I hope the official build in future versions will have its firewall rule set to apply for both Public, Private and domain networks.
That would save some people a headache (I think)

As far as I can tell I didn't actually touch the code that is responsible for this... Does it happen again if you uninstall it and reinstall the same version?
Or if you go back to v3.1.5, launch it, close it, and install v3.1.8?

Well, I don't see it as a bug, and certainly not a libtorrent bug.
If it is a bug, it a more like a packing bug.
Dayman's 64-bits package does create the firewall rules to my liking (= rule apply to all 3 network)

I'll return, when I have some info regarding the "Network Interface" issue.

Hello, with the new 3.1.8 build it keeps crashing for me. In the window that says it has stoped it says problem event name BEX.
"BEX refers to Buffer Overflow Exception" I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but keeping config/torrents and its still haveing this issue.

3.1.5 continues to work just fine no matter how its installed.

qBittorrent v3.1.9.2 was released.
- OTHER: The v3.1.9.1 Windows build was broken

qBittorrent v3.1.9.1 was released.
- OTHER: This is an excuse to produce new builds with an OpenSSL version that isn't affected by the heartbleed bug for Windows and Mac. This bug should only affect the WebUI and only if HTTPS/SSL authentication was enabled.

Thanks again sledge.

Thanks again for all your hard work, Sledge.
It's much appreciated! :)

I've mentioned this before, so I don't want to nag too much about it..
But I really don't think that you should keep on using the libtorrent SVN all the time.
..At least not for STABLE versions of qBittorrent, because sooner or later we're bound to run into problems like the one in v3.1.9.1.
The way I see it, using the SVN really turns qBittorrent into a beta version.

I second this proposition. It's well worth considering. The libtorrent SVNs have caused way too many problems so far. Stability should be a priority.

Just my 2¢.

Yes, I could stay with the stable releases, but often svn contains important fixes. Keep in mind that I used the stable series branch and not the trunk. One downside is that possible buggy commits make it into the next stable release and bite us in the ass when use them for ours...

Anyway, I'll use the last stable release unless svn contains important fixes next time.

It will work unless there's new or major feature changes (with 3.1.9.2). Only problem is Windows versions have to wait for it to be compiled with the new version.

To OP, I can't answer that, but it seems a new version isn't available so far more than a month later. I think I heard elsewhere 3.2 is going to be with libtorrent 1.0+ among other changes to qB.

Hi, Muzak.  See https://github.com/qbittorrent/qBittorrent/wiki/Frequently-Asked-Questions#What_is_qBittorrent_Peer_ID

The private trackers should already be familiar with them, should be enough to just mention the new release version.
Explicitly, though, I believe it is -qB31A0-<12 random bytes>

The bittorrent protocol specification for a peer id requires that it be twenty bytes in length exactly, so as "-qB31A0-" is only eight characters (bytes) it requires twelve 'padding' bytes.

Also some Windows 7 users experienced freezing of the GUI. We tracked it down to a specific commit in boost 1.56. So until boost fixes it, I am going to use boost 1.55 for Windows releases.

I personally didn't had any problems with v3.1.10 with boost 1.56 either while im a very active user. There were few threads on Github about it, some users with Windows 7 had UI hangs, freezes and things like that and probably had to do with 1.56.

Did something change in the user agent string between 3.1.9.2 and 3.1.10/11 (besides the version number, obviously)?   I'm a member on one pair of sites that uses the user agent string to whitelist clients and for some strange reason 3.1.10 and 3.1.11 are giving them fits trying to whitelist the client.  They are looking at moving to the peer id in the future but right now there seems to be something strange with the user agent string.... From the execution log just to make sure I'm talking about this right:  HTTP user agent is qBittorrent v3.1.11

When they move to peer id show them this:  https://github.com/qbittorrent/qBittorrent/wiki/Frequently-Asked-Questions#What_is_qBittorrent_Peer_ID

This is the particular line from qbt source for user agent:
Code: [Select]
sessionSettings.user_agent = "qBittorrent "VERSION;
and VERSION is defined as:
Code: [Select]
v3.1.11
Maybe a wireshark capture would shed some light on that.

Thanks, I'll probably have to wireshark it, something funky is going on, probably something with my connection....

Turns out they were using the Peer ID and had some regx code to split the peer id up and it broke on having a letter in the version.   Took me quite a bit of head scratching to come up with the fix, but all is good now, they updated the code and it's all good.....  Did I mention how much I hate regx????

FWIW, the current PeerId for 3.1.10 and 3.1.11 violate the "convention" for peer ids (I just received a mini-education on why my patch was wrong, even though it wasn't....hehehe)

I think the keyword here is "ascii digits".

Yeap. Here is an excerpt from include/libtorrent/fingerprint.hpp (libtorrent 1.0.3):

Code: [Select]
char version_to_char(int v) const
{
if (v >= 0 && v < 10) return '0' + v;
else if (v >= 10) return 'A' + (v - 10);
TORRENT_ASSERT(false);
return '0';
}

Libtorrent allows to construct the peer id by providing the fingerprint class a 2 character string, and 4 integers for major,minor,revision,tag versions. Each interger is converted to ascii using the above function.
Numbers 0-9 are converted to their equivalent ascii code(aka number).
All others are converted to the ascii code of 'A' plus their number.(minus 10).
Note: In C/C++ when you enclose something in single quotes it is treated as a character not as a number. So in this case '0' converted to number means 48 (the ascii code for zero).

EDIT: variables of type char can be treated in 2 ways: represent an actual character or represent a number(255 possible values).

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but I am new to the forums and qBittorrent, and haven't had a chance to fully explore. I know that with some torrent clients, the 12 bytes of padding in the peer id are static and are used as a unique id of sorts. I was wondering if this was the case with 3.1.11, and if so, is there anyway to change it other than enabling the 'anonymous mode' which unfortunately disables DHT and PEX.

The padding should be random. At least that is what the libtorrent docs say.
There is no way for an end-user to spoof the peer-id. (qbt would be banned immediately by every tracker if there was such a possibility).
I am not sure, but I think libtorrent 1.0.x allows dht/pex with anonymous mode. You should try the alpha builds in the "windows development" section of the forum. They use libtorrent 1.0.x. (the v3.1.x series aren't compatible with that)

Per libtorrent the 12 bytes are random each time you start the client.  They don't change until you close and reopen the client.  Most sites frown on this being changed during the client session.

Here is qBittorrent 3.1.12 built with MSVC 2013 express.

3.1.12 link-> http://www.fosshub.com/qBittorrent.html
Changelog: http://www.qbittorrent.org/news.php

Libraries's version used:
Libtorrent: 0.16.19+svn10736
Qt: 4.8.6
Boost: 1.55.0

As you may have noticed I have changed to using msvc 2013 instead of msvc 2008(these are compilers). I want Windows XP users to tell me if it works on their system. I tested it on a clean Windows XP VM and it works for me.

I just installed Win8.1 yesterday and 3.1.11 installed just fine but 3.1.12 is making Win8.1 want to block the install program from running. Claims it's "unsafe". I assume it's a false positive of some sort.

Are you refering to the UAC dialog or to some kind of antivirus warning?
In the past some antivirus programs gave false positives for our installers... This might be it. My avast shows it as clean.

I just have a stock Pro install(no custom anti-malware or anything, just games and "normal" programs), but it was like a UAC thing, where the entire screen turned grey and a message bar went across the middle saying that the program was blocked. MsMpEng has been running in the background for a quite a while now, from what I found, it's probably "learning" the new system.

I just recently tried it again and it is no longer being blocked, but I did try it a few times before originally posting. I guess I'll just assume MsMpEng was being overly paranoid or something. I kicked off a full scan, I read this can help it learn faster or something.
