Title: qBittorrent Controller for Android
Post by: lgallard on July 02, 2014, 09:46:07 PM
Hi everyone,

I developed a qBittorrent controller for Android. It has many of the features provided by the web UI in a native Android application. It's available at Google Play (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lgallardo.qbittorrentclient), and It's open source so the code it's available at GitHub (https://github.com/lgallard/qBittorrent-Client) and the the latest apk can be downloaded here (https://github.com/lgallard/qBittorrent-Client/releases)

Screenshoots (UPDATE: 02/08/2015)

qBittorrent Controller Pro

There is also a paid version called qBittorrent Controller Pro, available on Google Play (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lgallardo.qbittorrentclientpro) . This version includes a nicer UI, the latest features and fixes of qBittorrent Controller for Android and some features only available on qBittorrent Controller Pro.

qBittorrent Controller (free) vs. qBittorrent Controller Pro

Both versions have the same functions for handling qBittorrent servers, but qBittorrent Controller Pro is the paid version which includes a nicer UI, and the latest features and fixes of qBittorrent Controller for Android.

By the way, both versions are published at github, but the apk file for the Pro version will be only available on Google Play.

Enjoy it!

Nemo I've been using qBittorrent for a while and the lack of a client for Android really bothers me. I hope other people can use the application

I think it does but I wanted all the features provided by the qb's API...and a UI similar to the web UI.

Hi lgallard, thanks for the effort.
Silly question. Your client is listed in Google play? I did a search and found "Qbittorrent remote". Is that it?
It is a remote control? I thought I can download torrents directly on my tablet :P

Hi hyperion1is,

It's not listed in Google Play because I have to pay $25 to publish my application there, but you can download it directly from your device here https://github.com/lgallard/qBittorrent-Client/releases/tag/v1.3 (click on the green button that says qBittorrentClient_v1.3.apk).

Best regards,

Thanks for that app lgallard.

Questions :

- does it support connections using SSL? I did some tests and it seems it doesn't (my WebUI is configured to use SSL).
- Could download/upload rates be controlled via your app? Transdroid developper could not do it apparently

Trivial remark : inactive is spelled "inacctive"

Hi Seedthis,

Thanks for you comments.

About your doubts:

- does it support connections using SSL? I did some tests and it seems it doesn't (my WebUI is configured to use SSL).

Next release will support https. It wil set as a parameter in Settings. This release will be available this week.

- Could download/upload rates be controlled via your app? Transdroid developper could not do it apparently

I have to implement those functions, and they will included in a (near) future release.

Trivial remark : inactive is spelled "inacctive"

Thanks for the correction.

Hopefully, with glassez work on the webui, things will improve in the future, i think it's the most lacking aspect of qBt right now (especially for those who use qbittorrent-nox).

Title: Re: qBittorrent Client for Android
Post by: sledgehammer_999 on July 28, 2014, 06:53:10 PM
The server side of course is coded with C++. The client side is regular html/css/javascript etc.
I think we need someone that would be familiar with both sides. Because news features need to be supported by the server fist before the WebUI can utilize them.
And I don't know if you want to mess with C++.

I haven't worked with C++ since 2011, but I can give it a try in my spare time.

But I would like to finish other features in qBittorrent Client for Android first, for instance the upload & download rate limits (WIP  8)).

I know that feeling, though for me it was 2003 when I last did any "serious" C++ work, it's like being a "newbie" all over again :)

You can download the whole project for qBittorrent Client Pro, compile it on Eclipse Android Studio, generate the apk and install it on your Android device...or if you want you can buy the paid version to have the latest apk version delivered by Google Play.

Nitpick: That quote is from me :p

For anyone wondering the GPL doesn't fordid charging for binaries.
In this case, the qbt's API is used and none of its code. And as far as I know, you cannot copyright an API.

Sorry for the wrong quoting...

That's right GPL licensing only apply for source code. And you can find example even in Linux (Red Hat and SuSE) and other Android apps (for instance Owncloud).

Does your remote app work if I am using a VPN on both my phone and home computer?  I have tried configuring the WebUI settings.  Not sure what the IP address should be, especially since it may change if I am using a VPN.  Is the only option to use a dynamic domain?  Any advice is appreciated.  Thanks.
Title: Re: qBittorrent Client for Android
Post by: lgallard on October 14, 2014, 10:05:59 PM
Hi theodorius,

I used it on VPN, so it should work in your case. In Settings, you have to fill the Hostname/IP address field with your qBittorrent server's IP address. To check you are reaching your server from the phone, first connect to the Web UI, which should be something like:

http://192.168.1.100:8080

Where 192.168.1.100 is the qBittorrent server's IP address...change 192.168.1.100 with your server's IP address.

If your server's IP address is changing dynamically, then the only way it's a domain...but I think it should be the case, because commonly on a VPN all IP addresses are in the same segment and the dhcp should keep your server IP assignation (lease), therefore, your server should have the same IP address.

I hope all this information helps you!

Best regards,

Hmm.  No luck.  I'm wondering if there's a port forwarding configuration problem.  My VPN service,  PIA, has some port forwarding settings (remote port, local port,) and then there's the port settings in qbittorrent ( default is port 8080), and then the check box for the method of port forwarding which is confusing to me also.

Can you explain any of that?
Title: Re: qBittorrent Client for Android
Post by: lgallard on October 15, 2014, 03:01:21 PM
Did you reach the Web UI from your phone? If you have another PC in your VPN, first try to reach your qBittorrent server from a browser to check the Web UI.

About the forwarding, in your VPN/router try to make a rule to your qBittorrent server's IP and port (which is 8080 by default).

Best regards!

I have searched for the problem and since I couldn't find any help on qBittorrent Client for Android I'm posting question here - I hope you don't mind.

I have installed qBittorrent Client on Android and cannot add any torrents to the qBittorrent running on desktop machine. I see all the torrents in qBittorrent Client app and I could also connect with WebUI, however when I click torrent file on Android, it starts qBittorrent Client app, reports that torrent is being sent, that it is refreshing and then nothing happens - torrent is not added to the qBittorrent.

Help?

Qbittorrent server (on Windows desktop) is of  version 3.1.10, whereas qbittorrent client on Android is of version 2.5.1.

It should work...if you can, try to see the qBittorent (Web UI) logs when adding the torrent to check the client is sending the command. Best regards!r

Where can I find logs for Web UI?

I should mention that I can successfully add torrent using Web browser on Android and qbittorrent server address, however adding torrent using qbittorrent client app on Android isn't successful. I would however like to use qbittorrent client app to add, monitor and delete torrents on server.

It doesn't matter what torrent file I try to sent to qBittorrent, there is no error message in the execution log in qbittorrent server. It says it is listening on WebUI port and qbittorrent client can read all the torrents on the server, but it cannot write to it. What else may I try?

Do I need to add any special rule to Windows firewall and if so what this should look like?

I tried version qBittorrent Client version 2.6.0 on three different devices and it worked. Can you send your logs?

You shouldn't have anything else on Windows firewall but your Web UI port defined (default 8080).

I'm still trying to figure out why adding torrent files to the server is not working. Below you will find snapshot of the qBittorrent server log.

It is interesting I can delete torrent from the client, but I cannot add any new one.

I would appreciate any advice that would help me set-up and use the client to manage torrents.

Yes,  there is no change in the log, unless I delete torrent remotely or manage torrents locally on the server.

sloxl8, tested with qBittorrent 3.1.11 on Windows 7, and qBittorrent Client Pro 2.7.0. Both torrents were sent using the phone, one with a downloaded torrent file, and the other using a magnet link.

Sorry I'm just not able to figure out why it doesn't work. So, I'm Smith ng to Transdroid which works flawleslly.

I hope some future version if your app will work as designed.

@sloxl8 if you have your server set to other language different than English, it might not work.

By the way, Transdroid never worked for me, and it doesn't support all the qb features, but if it works for you, is okay.

Best regards!

Any chance you could make the homescreen icon bigger? It's much smaller than the other icons on my homescreen. Just a minor request so please don't make it a priority but it would be nice if this app were consistent with the other app icons on my phone. Thanks for your work!

Hello people!

I am using a linux version and I am very pleased with the app, but I can not configure the server account in this version for Android. I have a home network with router and follow some tutorials according to my local server settings, yet it finds no connection. There is no option to enable the WEB UI in the app settings. Please my friends, I would like some help.

Hi fhmcasado,

In order to enable the Web UI follow the instructions explained here https://github.com/lgallard/qBittorrent-Client/wiki/How-to-enable-the-qBittorrent-Web-UI. Then you should be able to connect to your qBittorrent server using the Android app or using a web browser.

Please, keeps me informed about your results!

Thanks for the ongoing developement lgallard, you sent me a PM months ago about a feature i talked about (that you implemented) and i forgot to reply. Your app has evoluted a lot since the early versions. For qBt remote management it's very complete compared to transdroid. I usually use transdroid for rtorrent only now.
Title: Re: qBittorrent Client for Android
Post by: lgallard on April 14, 2015, 10:52:14 PM
Hi Seedthis,

Thanks for your comments...qBittorrent Client for Android has evolved a lot as you said, and I'm still considering new features for future releases. For instance, there are many people asking the RSS downloader feature (but I would rather interact with the RSS on the PC, but it's not available on the WebUI API).

qBittorrent Client for Android manages other options (compared to Transdroid) because it's focused on qBittorrent only. Transdroid tries to embrace all torrent "servers", therefore it can't cover all features for qBittorrent (or all versions: 2.x, 3.1.x and 3.2.x) and sometimes you see weird torrent status that don't match with what qBittorrent reports (again, because no all torrent servers handles status the same way). Those were my main reasons for developing my own qBIttorrent Android app.

Best regards!

This looks really good, but what does "set your qBittorrent server's settings and account" mean? I put my tablet's IP in the "connection host" bit and entered a username and a password where it says. It says "The Host or IP address could not be reached". Help!

@tipy4: You misunderstood the application a bit.

Quote
qBittorrent Client is an open source application for handling qBittorrent servers (web UI).

If you have qBittorrent running on your PC, or your Raspberry PI, or NAS, or your server... whatever.
Then you can use this application to control qBittorrent on the other device.

It's a remote control - kind of thing.

Post by: lgallard on May 08, 2015, 09:50:17 PM
As Peter said, the application is for controlling your qBittorrent server (Web UI) from your Android device, so you have to fill in the fields with your qBittorrent server data: IP address or hostname, port, username, password, etc.

You can read the online documentation here https://github.com/lgallard/qBittorrent-Client/wiki

There you can read these pages:

Did anything change in terms of self-signed certificates for SSL WebUI? I ask that because since i updated to qBittorrent v3.2.0 and qBittorrent Client Pro 3.9.3, i can't access the WebUI. Your app throws two consecutive messages : "connection error" then "authentification failure" (translated from french).

If i switch to http, it works right away. I tried to connect to the SSL WebUI using an Android browser (Boat) and it worked too, i only got a warning about the certificate not signed by a recognized authority. My certificate has no passphrase and was created with OpenSSL 1.0.2a and this guide : http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/ssl/ssl_faq.html#selfcert.

Oses :

Windows 8.1 x64 with latest updates
Android 4.4 (Galaxy Note N7000), rom is Dirty Unicorns 8.2 (Cyanogen 11 base).

The new authentication method is a little tricky. Try first logging in the web ui from your device. Then close and remove the app from the Android list of app. Then try again.

Please keep me posted.

Tried that right now, same authentification failure with qBittorrent Client. Plain http doesn't work too. Everything is working from any android browser though :-\.

Then I have to check all again, because it worked with 3.2.0 alpha.

When ready I will release a fix.

Thanks for reporting the issue!

Hi lgallard,

I downloaded the update this morning and tested it, the issue is indeed fixed. Performance is good too.

Thank you for the time you invest in developping this app, my only wish would be the possibility of adding RSS feeds into the app for convenience, as the URL add means switching back and forth between a RSS app / Browser and qBittorrent Client.

Appart from that, it's the most complete remote for qBt.

You are welcome my friends!

@Seedthis I would like to see the RSS feature published in the API, to be able to handle the feeds added from the PC too. If there won't be any change in this matter, I willi implement the RSS feature in the app.

Right now I'm focused in the Google Material Design adaptation.

Best regards!

Nice, thanks!

My two cents for this remote:
When I start it up, it shows Network Error and then Authentification Error, although it shows the currently active torrents with a refresh rate of 5 seconds. Don't know why, but it's somewhat annoying.

Talking about the refresh-rate: 5 seconds are 1 second for me, thus it refreshes the window every single second. Not only the window, but also the ads, which is also kind of annoying (seeing new ads every 2 seconds). If needed, I can make screenshots.

Hi brot0,

Thanks for sharing your two cents...

Nice, thanks!

My two cents for this remote:
When I start it up, it shows Network Error and then Authentification Error, although it shows the currently active torrents with a refresh rate of 5 seconds. Don't know why, but it's somewhat annoying.

Maybe you are in one of these two scenarios:

1) Your qBittorrent server is version 3.2.0. In this case, authentication is established using cookies. Every time you start it up it tries the last valid cookie, if it is not valid it will show the connection/authentication error, ask for a new valid cookie and get connected with this new cookie.

2) Your network or your qBittorrent server is kind of busy,  and the app tries to establish a connection but due to delays you get a connection/authentication error. For this case try increasing the connection and data timeouts in the app settings to 10 and 20 seconds, respectively.

Talking about the refresh-rate: 5 seconds are 1 second for me, thus it refreshes the window every single second.

Changing the refresh rate only takes effect when restarting the app. I have to put a message or hint for this field in the app's settings.

Not only the window, but also the ads, which is also kind of annoying (seeing new ads every 2 seconds). If needed, I can make screenshots.

I will change this behaviour in the next release. Ads will be reloaded only when refreshing manually. The auto refresh should't reload ads.

This scenario applies then. Thanks for clearing things up!

You didn't get my point. I meant, although I set a 5 second refresh rate, the stats refresh every single second, not every 5 seconds.

About 1), please tell me if it just happens when you start up the app.

About the 5 seconds refresh problem, you are right. The next release will fix that too!

Hello. Well, the problem right now is that I migrated to qBittorrent 3.3.0alpha, thus I can't tell you of what happens.
But my former reply pretty much says everything that I can say by now, and you explained it very well actually...

When I start it up, it shows Network Error and then Authentification Error [...]

I'm glad to hear that one problem will be fixed :)

Title: Re: qBittorrent Client for Android
Post by: lgallard on June 30, 2015, 01:26:51 PM
Hi vrwmiaris,

You can touch the URL from your phone browser and you should be able to open it with the app (unless you defined a default action). You can also copy and paste the URL in the Add torrent section and it will send the torrent to the server, and you can download the torrent and open it from a file browser (like ES File Explorer) and choose the app to open the torrent file.

The app says "Torrent sent" because it what it does...so you have to check in the server log if the torrent was received. For example, if you have a firewall in the qBittorrent server the torrent might be blocked. Also if you are using qBittorrent server 2.x and the torrent is too big it will be rejected.

If you want, you can send me the torrent file in a pm and I can check it.

EDIT: Also take into account you have to touch or add the torrent link (.torrent file) or magnet link, not the web page URL where the torrent is published, because the app will say "Torrent sent" but the server will be rejected!

I would like to ask to all people in the forum to rate the app in Google Play, because despite it works new users download the app and if they don't enable the Web UI then just rate the app with one start. And not longer try to make it work (in deed I try to help them but I never get answers).

I really appreciate your comments and rate in Google Play https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lgallardo.qbittorrentclient

You need to change the name, because "qBittorrent Client" implies that it is a TRUE client with download capabilities  rather than being  an interface to control a remote client.

And you KNOW that the title is all they will read no matter what it says further down the page.

edit ... fixed the messed up BBCode

Hi,

I use 4.2.6 Android client, and 3.3.1 Windows client. When I download a .torrent file (via browser on Android device), and I tap on it, the client says: "The host or IP address cannot be reached. Check your settings" (or something like this), but I can connect to my Windows qBittorrent client, because I can see my active torrents, and so on.
Other issue: when I copy the link of the .torrent, and I paste it to "Add", the torrent successfuly sent to Win client, but the log (in Windows client) says: "2015. 12. 12. 10:43 - 'https://xy.z/something.php?action=download&id=1912693' downloading, please wait..." And nothing happens.

I turned off my firewall, and of course I forward the 8080 port on my router. What's wrong? How can I use the add .torrent from remote (Android client's) feature?

Regards,
Peter

Hi Ramses,

I checked  the app version 4.2.6 with qBittorrent version 3.3.1 and I could get connected, send torrents using magnet and .torrent links, and even copy and pasting the links with the add option. Remember you have to send .torrent links or magnet files. If you still have problems, send me the links in private to check them.

On the other hand if you get the error message "The host or IP address cannot be reached. Check your settings"  all the time, try increasing the connection and data timeouts in settings.

Best regards!

First of all thank you for the great app!

Have an option to send WOL to that Specific Computer(IP / MAC) and wait it to wake and then add those torrent.

Thanks again!

If the computer is "sleeping" the client and therefore the WebUI interface, which is how this controller communicates with the client is NOT going to be running to 'receive a signal.
It is your BIOS settings that determine whether the computer will 'wake up' if it receives a request at the network interface.

Yes I know this. Thats why I asked to Add an Option to Wol pc with Mac address before trying to connect the qbit Web ui

I believe hes asking for a WoL "magic packet" function.
Because modern pcs in sleep/low power mode actively listen on ports 7 & 9  they can be woken /w a crafted packet containing MAC address regardless of the state of running applications on the machine.

okay,

Not really possible in any case, as MAC addresses are not 'routable' over TCP. only over NET BIOS (WINS resolver)

Normally you'd be correct buuuuuut....
http://www.howtogeek.com/192642/how-to-remotely-turn-on-your-pc-over-the-internet/

You can cheat by portforwarding :)
Also you can shell into a headless box on the LAN then route the WoL call from there but that setup is unrealistic (2 servers??)

Honestly i cant think of a use scenario where I'd want a dedicated seed box to enter a sleep state ;)
Title: Re: qBittorrent Controller for Android
Post by: ciaobaby on March 29, 2016, 11:01:17 PM
Sure, but what has that got to do with adding it as a 'feature' to the WEB UI or the Android controller App??

You set it up on your router and your computer BIOS or NiC and that is what will happen any time a request  received that is to be routed to that particular LAN IP.

No 'special feature' needed.

Whether the computer and the client WILL start up in sufficient time to service that request, is a whole different can of worms.

RIP torrent progress hf force rechecking.

I'd assume he's talking about the android controller app, because if he were at a PC there are alot of tools in existance already to perform this task..
I suspect the guy wants an all-in-one mobile solution for something hes doing or has encountered, where the "best" solution is NOT to let the machine sleep in the first place.
(Qbittorent > Tools > Options > Behaviour > Inhibit System Sleep When Torrents Are Active)
Or ya know plain old disable sleep mode..
Or failing that..  to use some form of RA tool to resolve/manage those scenarios outside of the qbittorent client.

Still you are correct, there are alot of problems related to this requested feature, thus why its a suggestion!

Of course,  that is why I am explaining why it is not really a viable suggestion, and hopefully making people learning or want to learn a bit more about networking before making impractical "feature" requests.

Given that this IS the forum thread for the Android 'app' I'd say that is a pretty reasonable assumption :)

It is viable though, the only real concern would be loss of torrent state upon resuming due to slow to connect network drives, which in an "average user envrionment" (no network shares, everything saved to internal HDD) shouldn't be an overt concern and should merely be listed as a warning, infact its likely that the same "slow to connect" network drives would cause the same hypothesized faults/problems if qbittorent is set to start with the operating system without a delay.

IIRC qbittorent(libtorrent really..) currently has a bug(doesn't correctly set missing flag or no differentiation between deleted and missing files) regarding network drives & external HDDs when the computer goes into a sleep/hibernation state while qbittorent is still open. I cant remember the negative ramifications of it off the top of my head, i don't believe it was "overwriting 100% torrent with 0.01% torrent leading to massive dataloss" i think it was just simply torrents getting set to 0.00% and put into error state until force rechecked.
utorrent "fixes" this by not checking state of torrents until they are actually used.. and that behaviour is one of the last remaining "core" differences between utorrent and libtorrent.
I cant remember whether this has been resolved or not, i do recall sledgehammer been the person who brought the issue up on the libtorrent bug tracker & it been a relatively "new" issue.

ANYWAY BACK ON TOPIC!!
For casual use what hes asking is possible, android controller app only needs to supply fields for the user to enter an IP address(send here) MAC address(packet payload) and port (assuming portforward method for getting routed properly) this is all its required to do (along with actually craft & send the packet ofc..) the rest relies on the user setting their network up correctly..

If a user sets up their PC and network to work in that manner then 0 changes need to be made to qbittorent itself to support this as you are correct, this is entirely external to qbittorent itself, and thus why its a "viable" feature for the android based qbittorent controller and not qbittorent's internal webui itself.
The feature/addition itself may be outside the scope of the qbittorent android controller application however.

/e: the "alot of problems" i was was speaking about were hardware and user skill requirements, the hardware has to support portforwarding to ports 7 or 9, and the user has to be tech savvy enough to enable WoL and port forward himself correctly. There isnt a practical way of automating those things in either qbittorent or the controller application..
This would be an advanced user feature and to be completely honest, advanced users would NOT let their OS go to sleep with an active torrent client, because that is just begging for IO problems when it wakes..

The 'problem' is NOT hypothetical https://github.com/qbittorrent/qBittorrent/wiki/Status-of-"Missing-files"-at-start-up-or-after-restart, and having a delayed start will not help in the case of an external drive being disconnected or switched off for any reason.

And this is not likely to be solved any time soon, as it is a libtorrent issue not qbittorrent.

All that said, it is up to lgallard if {s}he is willing to "MacGyver"  this into the controller but would it not be far simpler for the ONE person who apparently 'needs' this, to install an already working "App" https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.benfinnigan.wol&hl=en_GB

Heya. Thanks all for your replies.
I think that I was not really clear what is the situation atm.

Currently My qbit config is that it wont sleep IF torrents are downloading. What I Just wanted is this.

ADD torrent using app.
Ping the host PC to xheck IF its alive.
IF not then use wol to wake it up.
ADD torrents. Thats it.

Ofc I can send WoL commabd via My phone atm but I was Just asking IF it could Be added to app itself.
Thanks.

The Android qbittorrent controller communicates directly with qbittorrent which acts as a "web server", it does NOT communicate with the host machine directly. To do what you want, cannot be done with with qbittorrent, simply because if the machine  IS 'sleeping', qbittorrent is NOT running to act on the instructions from the WebUI.

You need to set this up on your network card and/or machine BIOS, so when your router forwards a packet to your machine for ANY requests to the port that your webui listens on it will send a "wake-up" call as well.

Simply "pinging" the IP will do absolutely nothing at all, because you are NOT sending a 'ping' to your machine. It is your router that responds to ICMP traffic ( PING, ToD Traceroute etc.), unless you forward ICMP ports to the machine you want to respond (Commonly known as a DMZ (DeMilitarised Zone) in LAN security terms which is NOT something you should do to a unless the machine has been 'hardened' against attacks and intrusions, and if the machine is running some edition of M$ Windows. Do not even contemplate about the merest possibility of  thinking of doing it.

Wake-up On LAN is really ONLY for use with machines that are all on the same LAN or LAN subnet it is not intended for WAN - LAN operations. IF you want a LAN machine to 'wake-up' to WAN activity, this HAS, HAS to be done by tour router sending the "magic packet".

The important bit you absolutely need to understand is that MAC (Media Access Control) addresses are NOT routable beyond your LAN, so a "magic packet" CANNOT be sent from a location that is outside (WAN/Internet) of your local area network (LAN) to a machine that is inside,

You dont understand how WoL works, or you don't understand how basic networking works (port forwarding)
The MAC address is NOT how the packet is routed, the MAC Address is the PAYLOAD of the packet.
The packet is routed by IP Address, due to not been able to route a LAN IP over the internet it requires the user to PORT FORWARD something to correctly route it in the internal LAN.

The main problem with WoL-over-the-internet is that most ISP provided modem/routers will NOT let you portforward ANYTHING to point to ports 7 or 9 (where i live major ISPs typically blanket block forwarding to an IP port lower than 50 as everything here is a service and they dont want you running mail servers or someshit)

Im literally repeating myself, and you're making the same comprehension mistake.
What hes asking IS possible and HAS been done, its nothing new or magical.
The changes made to the controller application to support what hes asking are very minor. (3 entry fields + code to formulate a UDP packet based on the entry fields)
The changes the USER needs to make to their LOCAL network environment for it to WORK are the big changes & where all the problems lie.
^Assumes qbittorent itself wont shit the bed if the computer goes into a sleep state with it running, and apparently it will, so the BEST cause of action is to NOT LET YOUR PC SLEEP IN THE FIRST PLACE.
(I thought the new flags added in version 3.3.4 were to resolve this issue, as the thing you linked is "merged" in libtorrents tracker)

You have a big selective reading bias, has anyone told you that before?

/e: Here is a website + guide to tell you HOW to set this up.
https://www.depicus.com/wake-on-lan/wake-on-lan-setting-a-static-arp-entry-for-wake-on-wan
All of it can be replaced by "login to your modem/router combo and manually setup a portforward on some unused port to point to port 7/9 on local ip <your local ip here> using the GUI"
telnet in and do X is the global "this will always work if telnet is supported" answer.

https://www.depicus.com/wake-on-lan/woli
Here is their free service for performing the WoL Online Request. The only information it needs is MAC, your external IP address & the port you've forwarded.

/e2: How the hell did i miss this gem
Not really possible in any case, as MAC addresses are not 'routable' over TCP. only over NET BIOS (WINS resolver)
Wake-On-Lan "Magic Packet" is UDP not TCP.........
A sleeping PC cant really perform a TCP handshake can it lmfao.
The principal is it Wakes on recieving the NIC's MAC address as a packet payload on one of the 2 ports it actively listens to in that state, it doesnt care HOW the packet is sent over the transport layer AFAIK
UDP is the BEST option for routing it over the internet as routers like to drop everything else & TCP isnt viable for technical reasons.
You theoretically could send the MAC address as the contents of an ICMP ping packet and have it wake the pc provided it gets routed properly (it wont by default)
The name "Wake on LAN" is now a misnomer, it should be renamed to "Wake on Network Receive"

You need to understand WoL is old as hell and technological/intellectual progress since its inception have changed HOW it can be used past its initial scope.

Shouldn't you be nice and make it not sleep if qbittorent is actively seeding D:

No reason why it technologically couldn't be added it seems like a useful feature to incorporate even if it only affects a niche crowd, i dont understand what or why ciaobaby is argueing on this thread.
If anything he should be argueing "no its not related to qbittorent it shouldnt be added at all" instead of "lol thats impossible WoL doesnt work over the internet"

You can post suggestions directly to the application author here
https://github.com/lgallard/qBittorrent-Controller/issues
Ii think you'll probably have more luck with that than with this thread as it appears he only updates it for releases/support posts for a few days after release.

Sure, but that packet is NOT routable over a WAN, in fact the ONLY MAC address exposed to a WAN or the Internet is the router MAC identity. but you are missing what routing actually means.

Any device that is outside the LAN or even on a subnet or VLAN cannot 'know' the MAC address of any device that is on the LAN to put it into the packet, it is simply not possible, as MAC addresses are NOT available beyond ANY router or gateway that is on the LAN or a subnet of the LAN.

omfg.. you're actually retarded/illiterate.
THAT IS WHY THE USER SUPPLIES THE MAC ADDRESS OF THEIR PC, DO YOU EVEN READ BRO?

HERES A USE CASE FOR YOU IN ALL CAPS

MY PCS LAN ADDRESS IS 192.168.0.2, MY NETWORK IS ME DIRECTLY CONNECTED TO A MODEM/ROUTER COMBINATION NOTHING ELSE AKA TYPICAL HOME USER CONFIGURATION.

I TELL THE PROGRAM MY EXTERNAL IP IS 111.111.111.111 MY PCS MAC ADDRESS IS FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF AND TO SEND THE PACKET ON PORT 6969
IN MY LAN I HAVE TOLD MY ROUTER TO PORT FORWARD TRAFFIC ON PORT 6969 TO IP 192.168.0.2 ON PORT 7
MY ROUTER ACCEPTS THIS BECAUSE ITS NOT ISP LOCKED/SHIT FIRMWARE.

THE PROGRAM SENDS A PACKET CONTAINING THE MAC ADDRESS I SUPPLIED (FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF) AND SENDS IT TO 111.111.111.111:6969
IT HITS MY MODEM/ROUTER
THE PORTFORWARD RULE REDIRECTS IT TO 192.168.0.2:7
MY SLEEPING PC WITH THE NIC MAC ADDRESS FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF RECIEVES A UDP PACKET CONTAINING FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF ON PORT 7.
IT WAKES THE FUCK UP.

DO YOU UNDERSTAND NOW???!!!

/e: You literally just complicated the problem by adding VLANs, it should still work though provided ANY router(physical or virtual) can talk DIRECTLY to the computer, you MAY need to daisy chain forward rules to pass the packet that far if you've done something autistic like a sublan inside a sublan then bridging a connection from a laptop to a PC where the laptop runs qbittorent (which begs the question "WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?")
Upon further thought VLANS/sublans shouldnt be a concern at all provided the device can still listen to something on the LAN on port 7, it just complicates the LAN routing a bit.
eg send packet, packet hits modem on some port, modem/router forwards to ipcop distro/vrouter then that vrouter needs to properly forward it again, if you're running a VM i dont believe WoL "magic packet" will wake a VM up unless the VM emulates WoL as WoL is a hardware level thing (lvl0), I haven't personally tried it because i havent seen a need and i cannot be fucked looking for or testing that niche solution to an even more niche problem.

Any device that is outside the LAN or even on a subnet or VLAN cannot 'know' the MAC address of any device that is on the LAN
SINCE WE'RE TALKING ABOUT AN APPLICATION THAT INTERFACES WITH QBITTORENT AND QBITTORENT IS ON THE LAN.
WE CAN EXTEND QBITTORENTS API TO GET THE MAC OF THE NIC ITS BOUND TO AS PART OF ITS API FOR THIS ANDROID CONTROLLER PROGRAM
THAT SOLVES YOUR STUPID NOT-A-PROBLEM PERCEIVED PROBLEM AND MAKES IT MORE USER FRIENDLY FOR PEOPLE WHO DONT KNOW HOW TO IPCONFIG /ALL OR IFCONFIG -A

Tl;Dr (this is for you ciaobaby <3)
The problem you're talking about is a non-problem because the MAC address is never used to actually route the packet its a user supplied payload in a UDP packet as previously stated in this topic & if you bothered to click my links you'd realise from just reading the input fields it was a user requirement. /argument

/e2: You're talking to a systems administrator btw mr webmaster.
I asked the network administrator who works under me if i was wrong/mistaken in anything and she confirmed your problem comes from NOT FUCKING READING THE FULL POST.
That or you're translating to a language other than english and all the key repeated sentences are getting lost in translation.

Hi

HomeDope, regarding your feature request I have to say no to its implementation, because as ciobaby explained, my app is just a remote controller. In fact all actions are just calls to the qBittorrent API.

Can I implement the feature outside of the API calls? Yes, but as ciaobaby quotes there are other apps that already do what you want. I'd rather invest time in developing other qBittorrent requests.

P.S.:

KitKat, I do read all posts ;)

Hi ijmm, You can read this topic: Remote from other PC - Cannot open ports (https://qbforums.shiki.hu/index.php/topic,3187.msg15359.html), in particular the last message:

1. Set your router to forward the port to your PC(make sure your PC takes a static ip from router). Your router should map the same port number to outside as in the outside. ie don't have it map the internal 80 port to an external 4563 port.
2. Discover your external ip.
3. Go to your remote PC, open a browser and enter <external ip address of server>:<port number> eg 46.70.85.96:80

When you get the above working, then you can go and setup a noip domain that will automatically refresh with your new external ip...

Hi,

Working on switching from uTorrent to qbittorent.
PC setup went well, as well as remote login through the app.
However, I'm having issues adding a torrent from an RSS fee on the app.
Every time I select an RSS torrent in the app, it opens chrome and starts opening an endless amount of tabs which seem to try and download the file (figures it was endless, max count I saw before i stopped it was about 23). I've tried it a few times, but keep getting the same result.
Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks!

On the other hand, did you check you don't have Chrome set as the default app for .torrent files or magnet urls?

After testing with the site itself, other sites, and other RSS feeds, I have narrowed the issue down to a specific site/feed.
The feed/site that fails is nyaa.se. Selecting an item in the feed, or even selecting the magnet or torrent from the site itself in Chrome sends Chrome into an endless loop of trying to download the file but being unable to. Sorry for not having tested thoroughly before posting this.

For reference, I'm using an unlocked HTC 10 running MM.
I still have my older M8 sitting around. I'll try if there this evening and see if the behavior is the same.

Thanks!

Alright, so tested it on my M8 (also running MM) and got the same result. Not sure what the deal is with that site on mobile. My M8 has the HTC browser and it doesn't work there either. , so its not just Chrome. Works fine on my laptop, so not sure what the deal with mobile is.

When I'm on my home wi-fi I can successfully manipulate torrents with qbittorrent controller.

Problem occurs when I'm on other wi-fi's than it simply doesn't work.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

Nothing, if you have your local IP added in the controller, then it won't work.
Like, when you move to another WIFI, even inside your house, that's a different network.

BUT, you can forward out your port, and reach it from anywhere.

Hi there,

qBittorrent Controller on Android. Communications with my server is fine. But it is not reading RSS. I tried atom files, as well as regular http links, and nothing:

http://feed.rutracker.cc/atom/f/9.atom

https://rutracker.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=189

qBittorrent on PC reading atom files with no problems.
What am I doing wrong?

Thanks.

Hi Galushkino,

It happens when the RSS feed doesn't follow the standard

For further issues you can addressed them here https://github.com/lgallard/qBittorrent-Controller/issues

hello
I am having a problem connecting with the web UI of qbittorrent ver 3.3.16 I have followed the instuctions you gave and I can access the web UI using the address 192.168.0.195:8080 in a browser window on the same pc as qbittorrent is installed on and also from another pc on my home network. But I cannot connect using my android phone with the same address settings. do you have any idea why this would be happening. I am using the latest version of the controller ver 4.5.8. any help would be appreciated.

thanks
