MAC / Re: How to migrate from uTorrent to qBittorent on iMac?

Older versions have not been great. never has been. What's really maddening is it's the same on both computers. Different OSs going back to I can't remember! But you've given a glimmer of hope.

It's just slow or no response. Torrents are loaded and running. That's fine. But anything else I want to do is slow. So slow I might as well go for burgers while the app does what I've just invoked (e.g. sort a column, change the view to a particular tracker, etc).

While nowhere near as bad as Deluge (useless with more than a few hundred, even the new v2), my 2100+ slow qBittorrent down. When I had decided to give up on uTorrent in anticipation of it's obsolescence I tried several clients. Only Transmission could keep up with uTorrent. qBittorrent came close but there were just too many times it was slow to respond. Tried on a 2.9 GHz i7/16 GB RAM and a 2.5 GHz i5/16 GB RAM.

Even with the uTorrent folks coming through I would just as soon not use it. Guess I might try qBittorrent again. Never did like Transmission.

You run 4000 torrents in qBittorrent on Mac?!

uTorrent Mac will be 64 bit. In time for Catalina?

The 'private' sites I know about imbed a personal passkey into the .torrent file you download from the site. It is that passkey that is tracked, not your IP.

Now sites do check your IP when logging in to the sites themselves.

Thanks, Switeck. What a shame. With over 1000 torrents that need to be edited to work with qBittorrent I (we) are SOL. I'm on Mac and the next version of its OS will not allow 32-bit applications. uTorrent folks show no intention of releasing a 64-bit version for macOS. All other clients are 64-bit but have issues. Sigh.

I assume the process is the same no matter the platform?

In uTorrent you can select all the torrents, right-click to get Properties, paste in new URL, and you're done.

Can't find similar in qBittorrent.

Opening each file in a text editor is a non-starter.

Windows / Re: Tagging vs Categories.
« on: February 26, 2019, 10:36:19 pm »
Ok, but what's the purpose of the tags?

Do they act like labels?
I'm a relative newbie myself, dumping uTorrent, rooting around the forums. Today I was specifically looking for some insight into this topic. I'm thinking Tags are useable just like in other scenarios. I use Categories as I do Groups in Transmission which is to group by tracker. It's especially useful for sites that have more than one actual tracker. For example, IPTorrents uses 3 trackers. In qBittorent's GUI each tracker is differentiated. In my general use I couldn't care less the exact tracker.

So, to tags ... I can see where a user might want to tag by genre, and/or artist, etc.

MAC / 2000+ torrents ... An issue?
« on: February 21, 2019, 05:43:26 pm »
I am in the process of switching from uTorrent. I loaded some trackers and all was running smoothly. But my main tracker has almost 1400 torrents. They've loaded. And now qBittorrent has begun looking very odd. That is, the main window is blank if I choose a view other than the first or second view when I first begin qB. For example. on the latest startup of qB I chose Status>All and yes they were all showing. I then chose a Category and those showed. But next choosing another category, returning to All, etc. just shows a blank window.

Any ideas? I never got far with Deluge because it is known to get FUBAR with a lot of torrents. In my case it couldn't cut it after even a few hundred. Transmission is handling all 2000+ but I want a GUI that is more amenable.

New to qBittorrent, refugee from close to 8 years with uTorrent and several more before that with Azureus/Vuze.

Using my laptop on my home wireless network I have my downloads go to a networked drive that is in fact an external connected to a desktop elsewhere in the house, on the home network. No big deal; works fine. Usually once torrents are completed I will eventually transfer the torrent files to the desktop then continue permanent seeding from there.

My issue: There are times that the laptop sleeps, thus severing the networked drives' connections. When the laptop awakes and qBittorent figures out the connection to the networked drive has not yet been made, it errors out. So far that's not unusual; same thing happens with uTorrent. Trouble is, once the drive is mounted and I then select torrent(s) and "Force resume" qB starts downloading! If I instead do a rehash, it does that fine but still starts downloading once I choose to resume. In the same situation uTorrent just starts seeding.

Sure do hope I'm doing something stupid and so is easily fixable. If this is qB's expected behavior does anyone have a workaround?
