(IMO we don't even need that huge blue background on the text if the image goes transparent. I know it's like that on the website as well, but it goes with the blue background there.)

make clean: it only cleans out the "dirt" left from the make process.
make uninstall: should work, but only if you do it as root. (sudo make uninstall)

Use apt-pinning. Or pbuilder.
