Qbittorrent shows my external IP on the Peer list

Post by Killua »

As title says, my qBittorrent is always showing my external (public) IP address in the peer list on every torrent that's being uploaded, this started after opening ports on my router, previously i was using uPnP for port mapping. The port opens normally acording to canyouseeme.org, and people download the torrents i'm seeding without trouble, but my ip keeps showing on the peer list. I don't use proxies or VPN's. I have attached screenshots, 4th screenshot is my router setup page were i opened the port:

3: https://s27.postimg.org/5l32vmhtf/qb3_ip.jpg

4: https://s27.postimg.org/nqg19ohbn/qb4_port_mapping.jpg

I'm using qBittorrent 3.3.10, Qt: 5.7.1, Libtorrent: 10.0.10.0, Boost: 1.62.0. Windows 7 Starter 32 bits. My router is a Huawei HG531 V1.

Hope you can help me, Thanks!

Whatever significance there is to the X.X.67.113 ip ...it's not using a consistent port nor even using qBitTorrent. It's even jumping between a very old and a rather new version of uTorrent.
Was that something you were running besides qBT?

Network interface bind not respected for tracker announces:    https://github.com/qbittorrent/qBittorrent/issues/6198

Deluge, which also uses libtorrent, has a similar problem:    http://dev.deluge-torrent.org/ticket/2149

XX.XX. 67.113 It's my public IP address, i'm not running anything besides qBittorrent, just my browser (chrome) with 3 tabs open (Youtube, qBittorrents Forums and KAT). First time i see this behaviour. I opened port 61720, I'm not sure if i did it correctly, so i uploaded a screenshot of the setup page (4th screenshot in my first post). It also shows up with different clients and ports. Looks like if there were many people on my network downloading the same torrents i'm seeding with multiple PC's and using diferent clients and ports.

I misunderstood you earlier due to not reading closely enough...
I should have paid more attention to this:
"I don't use proxies or VPN's."

qBitTorrent like almost any BT client is supposed to advertise its public (internet) ip address to the tracker and other peers/seeds.

So it's probably working as designed.
Those other peers/seeds you're seeing on the same ip as your public ip are either someone sharing your LAN (maybe even neighbors leeching your wifi?) or your ISP is hostile and spoofing fake peers.

Today I closed ports on my router, then, activated uPnP/NAT-PMP on qBittorrent, according to canyouseeme.org the desired port is open and i'm not seeing my IP on the peer list anymore.

Strange, same thing here... how possible we have to disable our own rules of port forward and using upnp solves the problem? :/

Yesterday I also was seeing my IP of the DSL-provider in the peer-list, ALTHOUGH I'm always (and yesterday) using a VPN.
I noticed this for a rare torrent with unusual high d/l at that time. wtfismyip.com confirmed that the VPN was active at that time.

It was the first time in all the years of using qbt (now v4.1.3) seeing any of my own IPs in the peer-list.

UPnP was always on in qbt and router. But I can see both in the LOGs: UPnP / NAT-PMP support [ON] and UPnP / NAT-PMP support [OFF].
Just also noticed there are both of my IPs in the LOG: first the DSL-IP (WHY on earth?), 1 minute later the correct IP of the VPN. The access to WAN is disabled by firewall in case the the VPN is down (killswitch).
It seems NOTHING is safe...

However, I'm happy this bug exists (which is a rare case!), because it shows that something is wrong with my config.

I am sure the DSL-IP is not used by anybody else (my DSL-provider is not using carrier-grade NAT), nor nobody else can use my private network.

I'll turn off UPnP and also TR-064 on the router and see how this goes.
