UPnP not working over LAN?

Post by FliessendWasser »

Hi there.
I am kinda lost now, I'm hoping for your help.

Recently I switched ISPs, implying that I have a new router now (Fritz!Box 6490 Cable). I both have my laptop and my desktop connected to it, both have qBittorrent v3.3.12 x64 installed.
Now, the difference between these two PCs is, that my laptop is connected via WiFi and my desktop via LAN cable - and this seems to make a difference too with UPnP. While my laptops qBittorrent easily maps the needed ports via UPnP, my desktops qBittorrent returns an error "router not found".

Now, restarting both my computer and the router (took it off the power line) did not bring success, neither did disabling and enabling UPnP on the routers interface, or fiddling around in qBittorrents settings. Removing the LAN cable from my desktop and connecting it to the WiFi did bring success, as my desktops qBittorrent now mapped the port.  :-\

Re-installing qBittorrent wasn't successful either.

EDIT: I checked the router's log, just to find that it permitted my desktop to open ports UPnP.
EDIT 2: Deluge successfully opened its used port via UPnP, Tixati reports: "UPNP mapping TCP port 26771 on gateway 192.168.178.1 > error searching: Timed out searching for commands (50178)"
EDIT 3: The firewall is configured correctly for qBittorrent.

OS of desktop: Win10 Home 1703 Build 15063.10
OS of laptop: Win10 Home 1604 Build 14393.1066
(I think the OS could be the problem here, but seeing that it worked on WiFi makes me re-think that part.)

Here an excerp of my log:

Code: Select all

Seems like UPnP does not work over LAN cable only, as my laptops qBittorrent responds with the same error as before. Additional note: It has worked before, with the same LAN cable being used.
I will try to contact the manufacturer of my router for further assistance - plus I will keep you updated in case something has changed.

EDIT: Works now, as if something magical happened.

qBitTorrent may have been sending the UPnP commands to the wrong networking interface, although I don't know why that would change...
There's a bug or 2 in qBT's UPnP handling...

Old UPnP forwarded ports are not removed from router when QBT is upgraded to a new version. (Maybe causing conflicts when the program is restarted?)
https://github.com/qbittorrent/qBittorrent/issues/5695

Deluge (libtorrent) leaves UPnP ports open as well!

To give this an update: it was the routers fault. Something went wrong with it. Got my money back due to some other issues, and use the factory router from my ISP instead. Works like a charm. :)

With the latest versions of qBittorrent, I see these errors in the Execution log at every startup:
UPnP/NAT-PMP: Port mapping failure, message: could not map port using UPnP: Action Failed
UPnP/NAT-PMP: Port mapping failure, message: could not map port using UPnP: unknown UPnP error (-111)

Still, it seems to work just fine.
