How can I specify a desktop folder for the downloaded torrent to go to? I am brand new to qBittorent, just switching over from many years at utorrent.

You can select the default save directory in Options > Downloads > Default Save Path.
Note: Moved topic to general Windows help forum rather than QA one, since it's not specific to beta builds.

Got it, thanks. But I wish only the completed torrent would go there, seems they all do. Anyway to fix that?

You could make your destination folder your Default Save Path like Scragly suggested and then add another folder for incomplete torrents (it's the option just under Default Save Path), your downloads should then move upon completion to where you want them.
