Windows 10 blocked Qbittorrent

Post by degete »

As of today, Qbittorrent doesn't work any longer on my Windows 10 machine. At first, I noticed the Qbittorrent shortcut was deactivated. I tried to reinstall the application, and it appeared that Windows did let me reinstall it. However, at last step, when I tried to open the app, Windows Defender blocked it. Even if I set Defender to allow this app, it still doesn't work. The app worked flawless until today. Interestingly, the same thing happened with other torrent clients that I tried to install. I have the impression that Windows just modified its policy regarding torrent clients. Did anybody else experienced the same issue?

Found out, that 4.0.0 version still works and windows defenders does not consider this as a threat.

Older versions:

Of course it works, all outdated software probably works but if its advisable is the second question.

No support and use at own risk.

Well the only other solution on Windows 10, short of installing a different antivirus program (all the free ones suck) or disabling windows defender entirely (definitely not recommended), is to disable PUP/PUA (i.e. antispyware) scanning in defender. Whether or not that is more risky than using an outdated version of qbittorrent I have no idea though at least on pro (and enterprise, of course) you can mitigate that by using software restriction policies to make specific folders non-executable so that you don't accidentally run anything from your download folders before you can check it with virustotal.
