Why is there no auto update function?

Post by S.H.Bouwhuis »

Almost all modern software automatically updates. Why doesn't Qbittorrent do this?

Now we have to:
1. We get a dialog that there is a new version
2. Choose upgrade
3. A browser is started
4. Download the Qbittorrent setup
5. Go to Windows Explorer
6. Go to the Downloads folder
7. Double click the setup
8. You have to press next, next, next, ...
9. Now you get a warning that Qbittorrent is still running
10. Go to the icon tray to close Qbittorrent
11. Press next
12. Get yet another 'Qbittorrent is running' dialog
13. Keep pressing next until after about 15 seconds it finally closes
14. Wait until it installs
15. Press close
16. Delete the setup from the Downloads folder
Pffffffffffffffffffffff

How it should be:
1. We get a dialog that there is a new version
2. Choose upgrade
3. There is no step 3 :)

I know that there area a lot of steps to upgrade to a new version.

But for me, I like having older versions in a specific folder on my pc. I have a folder named Programs, then in there qBittorrent with copies of older versions. That way it is a quick process to downgrade to a previous version for any reason.

Not every upgrade to the newest version works out well. So I have a quick way to get to older versions. Instead of having to go to the website and download the older version. Not every website keeps older versions available.
