Question About SOCKS5 Proxy

Post by k1g »

I have a SOCKS5 proxy set up under options -> connections -> proxy server. It’s through my NordVPN account and works great with no issues.

My question is what happens if the proxy server is down? Like say for some reason qbittorrent can’t connect to the proxy and I currently have torrents downloading. Will it stop all the downloads until it can establish a connection to the proxy?

This is the behavior I would prefer because I do not want to broadcast my IP when I download torrents. I want it to only use the proxy. I know other clients have this behavior but I can’t find any info on whether qbittorrent behaves this way. I’ve searched hear forums as well as Google.

When you add the proxy server configuration, qbittorrent will strictly only use valid proxy connections. If the proxy is down, there's no valid connections for it to use, so there'll be no communication and the torrents won't work.
