Sawtooth shaped download speed.

Post by ghostBell »

Hi ! I'm a newcomer, may be my question is quite naive ...
My download speed looks like a "sawtooth signal", over a six hours period, as the attached image shows.
Is it a sign of misconfiguration or an intrinsic feature of normal data traffic ?

More-or-less a bug in qBitTorrent/libtorrent, as other BitTorrent clients don't do that as badly:

https://github.com/qbittorrent/qBittorrent/issues/7954 [4.0.2] The unstable speed issue
https://github.com/qbittorrent/qBittorrent/issues/8284 Download going up and down (Mac)
https://github.com/qbittorrent/qBittorrent/issues/8579 Download speed jumping up and down on MAC
https://github.com/qbittorrent/qBittorr ... -366487275 "As can be seen the upload 46 KIB/s has exceeded the limit 42 KIB/s temporarily and there was a peak at 55.3 KIB/s sometime during the half hour"

Thanks for the reply !!

I have read the suggested pages, but I'm still missing the main point. I'm using ver. 4.1.0 .

1. No expedient can fix the problem (as other users pointed out). Right ?

2. Considered that libtorrent seems to be blamed, should I migrate to a different client, not built atop it, or revert to a previous version of qB ?

Someone told:
as you maybe know, the "heart" of qBittorrent is libtorrent and it is responsible to all torrent-related activity. I think, the issue maybe in libtorrent itself, especially considering the fact with NO issue in 3.3.16.
3. Doing that, can I really expect to improve the mean download speed ?
Someone told:
What do you care what it looks like? Not pretty enough for you? The average download speed is obviously ~identical.
and
Clearly you don't have the slightest clue what it is doing. It's not a matter of average speed. Its a CONSTANT drop to 0.
As far as I know, I'm not experimenting drops to zero ...

Disabling uTP may allow the latest qBitTorrent to hold closer to a steady speed, but max speeds are likely to be reduced unless on a very busy torrent.

You sure that your HDD/storage/CPU/router can keep up?
I realize that the shown speeds ain't much, but if you do anything in the background...

My qBittorrent downloads with 130MB/s+ speeds constant. But, there is proper storage behind that, and a fast enough CPU.
