Listening port and VPNs

Post by dave2733 »

Hello,

I'm a little puzzled about the listening port - is this for new external incoming connections? That wouldn't work with my VPN since external IP addresses are shared and you'd have no idea where to send an incoming connection. Testing with canyouseeme times out for my chosen listening port.

Or have I misunderstood the protocol?

thanks
Dave

You understand it OK, but there are VPNs that provide active port forwarding. Mullvad, Windscribe are two. PIA also did it - not sure they still do it tho.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. So is the port used exclusively for incoming connections - meaning I could ignore it - or does it have some other use that I should manage?

regards
