If you use a VPN, just connect to VPN and well, use qBittorrent normally.
If you use a SOCKS5 proxy, go into qBittorrent settings, and set the proxy under "Connection".

It's pretty much the same.
SOCKS is useful because you don't have to push EVERY traffic through.
Like you can still play games, listen to music on Spotify and whatever, because it will just use your normal internet.

VPN will make ALL your traffic go through a remote server, and that adds latency to your connection.

Depends on what you want to do.
If you want to go full anonymous, use VPN.
IF you are just worried about torrenting, use SOCKS.

Socks 5 is safer as it is always hiding my IP, the vpn may disconnect and real IP shows; correct?
But is the socks 5 safe enough to hide that I am bittorrenting?

Yes, it's safer in that regard.
Yes, it's totally safe. It's called a "Tunnel", because well, it's like a ... tunnel.

There are ways to 'safeguard' VPN connections too, but I only know about Windows applications that do this.
(So it protects you from revealing yourself.)
