Question: How to set default movie download folder

I apologize in advance for the simplicity of this question.  I'm using version 3.3.6 on the Mac.  Under settings I see the downoad settings.  I've selected the default directory for files.  When my downloads complete they are not placed into that folder. The folder is located on an external USB drive.  Ideas?
