Are there any good Free proxy servers ?

Hi,

By good I mean two things fast transfer rates and anonymity. I can't afford a paid service atm.

I have tried some from here http://proxylist.hidemyass.com/. They are terribly slow.

Also if I use a proxy will that by any chance disable local peering ?

Actually the last time I tried some of these proxies I was using a

DSL connection which had no local peering support.

Yes it will, there are no 'chances' involved, it is an absolute.

Using a proxy and  having "fast transfer rates" are mutually exclusive terms.

"By good I mean two things fast transfer rates and anonymity."

Wow.
So you don't want to pay, but you want to use a service that costs loads of money to operate?

No words. :D

Okay, after learning the fact that speed slowdown cant be avoided I gave up the idea but today I was

I was experimenting with the settings and I used one http proxy from hide my ass and applied it

but I didn't select  "User proxy for peer connections".

Yes, as usual those torrents which have no local peers are downloading approx 10kB/s slower than

without proxy but I tried downloading a torrent which has local peers, qbittorrent connected to

local peers directly and downloaded the file at 10MB/s.

So, my question is what is the significance of this setting ""User proxy for peer connections" ?

I mean why use it ? and What if I use a proxy without enabling this ^^ ?

I don't have the money.
Then your choices are: Accept the limitations or do not use a proxy.
I mean why use it ? and What if I use a proxy without enabling this ^^ ?
Put your mouse cursor over the text and it will tell you.

"Its not like I don't wan't to pay. I can't pay atm. I don't have the money."

Then you have to get some, simple as that.
I mean, there is no other way around it.

Maybe you could apply for Github's Student pack. But then you are not anonymous.
(well, you are not anonymous as long as you pay with real money, Paypal, or things like that.)

Hi,

Before Snowdon some of us knew, that internet hiding is almost impossible.
After Snowdon everybody should know that.

To the technical section.

To try to hide your ass (IP address) you can do some or all the things.

Proxy servers
Socks servers
VPN
Tunneling w. port forwarding ( by use of e.g. ssh )

All requiring a computer/server in the other end. ( Where you pay for the performance )
In some countries, the government can require the information. Other places the government is following in real time.

Proxy'es and Socks goes into the individual programs. The simplest method to control single programs.
VPN is normally redirecting all the network trafic from your PC. Unless you are a nerd e. g. runs linux, and setting the iptables.
Tunneling is more nerd stuff. You have to be in control which port you use in the program, and redirect those through the far away machine.
I would recomment the VPN and tunneling to be used in a virtual machine, that way you can use the host to whatever you normally do.

( If you want to hide your payment, you have to go through a free ( slow ) service and use a stolen creditcard ;-)

BitTorrent clients have security weaknesses when it comes to proxies and VPNs, mostly related to when the proxies or VPNs go offline.

Warning: If you're using a VPN or proxy...
