Swarm numbers missing on some trackers

Post by rysvald »

Hi,

I recently switched from uTorrent to qBittorrent 3.1.12.

For the most part it is a very uplifting and postive experience.

The only issue I have is that qBittorrent doesn't present total number of seeders and peers on some trackers.

I have attached screenshot to clarify.

On some trackers I always see both the total number of seeds/peers and connected seeds/peers, on other trackers I only see connected seeds/peers.

I generally try to avoid to stop seeding any torrent which have few seeders. Without information about total number of seeders, everything looks very dead and it is practically impossible to determine which torrents to stop seeding :(

Is this:
A) A bug in qBittorrent?
B) Some setting which can be corrected on tracker side?

If B) Which setting exactly?

It's a problem with the tracker. It didn't send any scrape info back.
As far as I can tell qBittorrent is the only client having the issue...

Here is an example: http://bt.etree.org/download.php/578775 ... 16.torrent
(It is on an public tracker dedicated to musicians who wants to be discovered, so it should be legal to download as well, http://bt.etree.org/ )

If I open this torrent in uTorrent I get the total number of seeders and peers.
In qBittorrent the total number of seeders and peers is missing.

Edit: I just noticed that the above example torrent actually shows the total number of peers under the Tracker tab in qBittorrent. Unfortunately this is not true for all trackers, otherwise I could have used that as a workaround.
Also all trackers are showing "working" status, even the ones where no peers from the swarm can be seen anywhere.

I have this too sometimes that a torrent shows the total seeds like 50 (250) and sometimes only 50 without the 250. I think (just a guess) that this is related to the number of trackers that are being announced at the same time and qBittorrent can't calculate the total seeds at that moment. And if you add DHT/LSD and such on top of it too with the numbers continously changing. Or as sledge mentioned that it didn't send any scrape information (yet). If there is 1 (private for example) or 2 trackers it almost always shows the total seeds as far I've seen.
Does that mean that you are able to to see the total number of peer/seed on the example torrent I provided?
For me it seems consistent with different tracker gives different result.

That would be a "trackerless" torrent, so there are no counts to report.

33 seeds 0 peers when it started, now 34 seeds 0 peers.
0 DHT and 0 PeX all the way through.

I think its something to do with php based trackers myself. I been trying this client and it seems to show right info on tracker I know using xbt but ones based on php aka like announce.php it seems to show 0.
33 seeds 0 peers when it started, now 34 seeds 0 peers.
That was a very unexpected answer. Did you really see those numbers in parenthesis in the normal peer and seed columns in the main window?  :o

Yep, currently the tracker reports 35 peers (DHT & PeX are still 0) and my client has one or two intermittent peer connections.
And you are absolutely 100% totally without any doubt sure that you can see this in the main window like this 0 (35) 0 (0) and in now way figuring it out logically based on the information available under the Tracker-tab where DHT & PeX are shown?

The reason I ask is because I think I must have tried every single setting available in qBittorrent without any progress.

I have also removed and added the torrent multiple times in between, completely disabled the windows firewall and upgraded to 3.2.0 alpha and still no parenthesis.

I have also tested to see what happens in Deluge since both clients are based on libtorrent... And in Deluge the number in parenthesis show up fine for the example torrent... But behaves exactly the same on torrents on a different tracker. So the behavior in itself seems to be very much a libtorrent thing... But seemingly differs between clients and trackers.

So if you are telling me that this is a local issue in my computer and not an application issue, then I would be very interested in knowing what your setup and settings are :)

Obviously I no longer do, simply because my client is now seeding so, does not get separate seed and peer counts to use, only a total count of 'known' peers from the tracker (38).

If you look at the third line in the original screenshot in the first post... Can you see it like that?

When it was first loaded yes.
Well, it is not so obvious to me
When your client is not actively seeking pieces from the swarm tracker (seeding) it does not need to get any  seed counts when 'scraping' a tracker.  ( https://wiki.theory.org/BitTorrentSpeci ... Convention )  it only needs a total peer count
