Suggestion: qBittorrent portable for Linux

Post by fraterlinux »

I would like to make a suggestion to developers. Offer a portable version for linux.
Offering an distro independent compilation of binary with ready the latest stable version. Just like Firefox, where just unzip and run.
The official repositories of distros are always late and offer old packages.
A portable version can be used on a pendrive or a custom installation in independent linux distro!

Static linking (e.g. making a portable app) would be a HUGE sized pack.
Like 100mb or so.

Who would want a 100mb sized bittorrent client? Even if it's portable. :/

There was/is a windows version that is portable (i.e. all self-contained on a usb with config file put in same directory and no install needed).

In theory that version could be run through such a utility as "wine" but other poster has a point, on linux you have to take into account dependencies, at least with versions of linux I'm familiar with, so to make a portable version you would have to package all dependencies with the program... or at the very least have an older version installed meeting the same dependencies. (maybe)
