private torrent for upload, the downloader cannot download

Post by miracles »

Hello!
Using:
Windows 10 Pro x64
qBittorrent 4.4.3.1 (new install)
Using default settings in qBittorrent.

When using torrent creator, for a new private torrent for upload, the downloader cannot download.
He sees the content but no cigar...
What am I doing wrong?
If more info is needed I will provide that.
Please, anyone advise highly appreciated!
Thanks and best regards,
miracles

No one? Please? Any hints are much appreciated.
I often think when I find difficulties and issues regarding software or other computer errors, I'm surely not alone.
Searching, googling those issues, many times I find answer but this private torrent problem I find nothing...
Was thinking about port forwarding, router settings and so on? Much of this seems to be done by default in qBittorrent.
So, anyone, please?
Best regards,

I'm baffled, can't figure out why no one is answering my very detailed question?
What is this forum for? To help users I presume?
Shurely there has to be someone experienced who can answer, give some input?

Thanks...

Private torrent is to work using a tracker no? I saw that there is no tracker in the torrent, so how would it work? No user passkey, I'm not a technician and not an expert, but I think maybe that's the problem.

Hello Havocdan! :D
Thanks for replying, much appreciated!
That could be the culprit, do you know how to add a tracker?
I see these options:
--------------------
Fields
Tracker URLs:
Web seed URLs:
Comments:
Source:
--------------------
What should I add in there?

Best regards,
miracles

Edit: Found this info:
Copy the external IP address and paste it in the "Tracker URLs" field in the following format. http://IPaddress:portnumber/announce
Is this the solution? My IP?
Also trying to figure out what this means?
No user passkey

Let's break it down, when you create a torrent by checking the private torrent option, you disable for this torrent all connection functions that cannot be monitored/controlled by the tracker, but if you create the torrent in these circumstances without a tracker, nothing can connect, as you have disabled connection functions that don't use tracker and don't have tracker in your torrent. To put tracker in a torrent there are several methods, one of them is you send it to a tracker and download the version that that tracker should generate, which should add the tracker url to your torrent, if the tracker you send it to is public, will be accessible by anyone, but with limited functions, if you send to a private tracker, it will be restricted to users of that private tracker, in the latter case, each person registered on the private tracker, will download a private torrent containing their passkey, which is what identifies the user to the tracker and allows him to p2p with the torrent.

Hello!

Thanks for the comprehensive answer, it is much appreciated.
I understand better now but do not know the procedure for doing what you describe.
Sorry I'm such a hopeless newbie...

Best regards,
miracles

PS/ I have used private torrent before, using qBittorrent but this procedure is completely new to me.
Has it changed with later versions of qBittorrent?

This might work as you would put your own ip as a tracker, but I don't have enough knowledge of what hurdles you would have to watch out for, like portfowarding, firewall, configuring your modem or router. I say this because there wouldn't be any tracking software on your ip at your address, if doing what I said in the previous post didn't work for you, we'll have to wait for help from someone more prepared.
