How to get .torrent files to be recognised by qbittorent

Post by ClaudBalls »

How can I get Linux to recognise .torrent files and go to qbittorrent?
I have Mint Cinnamon V20.3

If I click on a torrent file, it saves it in my general downloads folder (where everything else I d/l goes), then I have to click on the downloaded torrent file, which opens qbittorrent.

However, if I click on a magnet link, that does go straight to qbittorrent and adds it to my torrent downloads.

Thanks,

Hi,

Not familiar with this distrib but "file associations" is what you're looking for. The settings of the OS should have a section for this.
Maybe even possible to create the association by right clicking the .torrent and choose "open with"

Thanks so much!

I right clicked 'open with' as you suggested. now each time after that, the .torrent file does go straight to qbittorrent.
