Can't install any search plugins on a seedbox install

Hi, I have a Feral seedbox that runs QBit 4.3.9 as the default version, with Python 3.9. I can't install any custom search plugins from the unofficial site (or any site).

Here's what I've tried:

• Open the raw python gist for a plugin and paste its URL into QBit after opening Search plugins > Install new plugin > Plugin path. Note that my version of Qbit doesn't have a file picker. (Also, I do use the Vuetorrent skin as you'll see there, but that isn't the cause)
• Download that same gist as a .py file and FTP it to my seedbox. In Plugin path, instead of a URL, enter:

  /.local/share/qBittorrent/nova3/engines/one337x.py

  ...and then restart Qbit, since the above is my plugins directory, so maybe it will detect the new plugin. Nope.

Am I missing something simple here? There were a few plugins (such as 1337x) that require a later version of Qbit, but since I can't install plugins at all, I haven't tried updating my binary yet. Feral told me I can just drop that in, so let me know if I should.
