How can I restore torrent and magnet link associations with qBittorrent after uninstalling Shareaza?

Under Tools, go to Options.
Under Behaviour, check both
Use qBittorrent for .torrent links and Use qBittorrent for magnet links.

Alternately, use the Set Default Programs option from the Control Panel, to set file associations manually.

I've already tried both methods and neither work. The checkboxes in qBittorrent's options won't stay checked (yes, I clicked apply and OK), and the magnet protocol isn't listed in Default Programs.

The magnet protocol handler is defined in whatever browser you use.

Setting file associations: Right click on the file -> choose Properties -> set  "open with" to qBT

Run qbt with admin rights to change the associations. Then close and run with normal rights.
